Pirelli successfully completes 50 grand prix victories after the Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
The lone tyre supplying company of Formula 1 Pirelli has announced that they have successfully completed 50 grand prix victories following the 2011 Monaco Grand Prix.
Pirelli has been quite efficient and good in terms of performance as it is believed that out of the three major new changes in the sport, the new tyre compounds have affected the sport the most.
The new tyre compounds introduced by Pirelli degrade much faster than the Bridgestones of 2010 as a result of which, the importance of a race strategy has been reintroduced.
Paul Hembery, the motorsports director for Pirelli has recently stated that the performance of the Pirelli tyres has been as good as expected due to which these tyres have been successful for the manufacturers around the streets as well.
“The pure performance of the PZero tyres was demonstrated by the fact that we were able to set the fastest-ever qualifying lap of Monaco, adding to our record of success, which now includes more than 50 grand prix wins throughout our time in Formula One,”
Hembery said.
Pirelli is going to be the lone tyre supplying company for the sport for the next 3 years and the results the company has produced up until now are quite overwhelming.
The teams are now forced to go for at least a 2-3 pit strategy since these tyres degrade quite quickly. The timing and precision of the pits along with quick thinking about compound changing has made the sport more unpredictable.
However, fans believe that the organisers of the sport should reintroduce refuelling in the middle of the race as that makes racing even more unpredictable and exhilarating. With that, each team will be on a different fuelling strategy which makes the cars
either heavier or lighter thereby increasing the excitement level of the sport.
The 2011 Formula 1 season has been quite exciting up until now as well and it is believed that the upcoming European races are going to be extremely crucial and difficult for the teams in terms of tyre performance.
