Pirelli tyres might not suit Schumacher in 2011: Ross Brawn
Team Mercedes had a disappointing 2010 Formula 1 season after a championship-winning 2009 campaign.
The team changed both of its drivers for the 2010 season and managed to bring back Michael Schumacher to the sport after four years.
It proved to be a poor return for the seven-time world champion as he was unable to perform in the entire season. He finished the year with the worst statistic performance of his career.
Schumacher stated that it was all because of the fact that his car was built according to Jenson Button’s preference and that the Bridgestone tyres did not suit his driving style at all.
However, since Bridgestone is going to be replaced by Pirelli tyres in 2011, it is expected that Michael Schumacher will not have the same problems he had last year.
Nevertheless, Mercedes’ team boss Ross Brawn recently stated that Pirelli might not suit his driving style completely either.
“Michael's deficit was generally in slow-speed technique, not high speed, where bravery and car control are the factors,” Ross talked about Schumacher’s 2010 performance.
However, like always, Michael Schumacher is confident about the upcoming season and he believes that he will definitely find a way to outperform his rivals.
“It's a little premature to say that. During the tests in Abu Dhabi we didn't see any big differences in performance compared with Bridgestone,” Brawn told the media.
Team Mercedes is confident about its car for 2011 though and since they have two talented German drivers by their side, it is expected that Mercedes might be a huge threat for Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull. It would be interesting to see the four teams competing
for the titles actively.
Mercedes hope to deliver the best possible package despite the problems they are currently facing.
“But it is clear that in changing the supplier, the car will have to be different and there may be a lot of changes during the winter tests. I am sure he will have a better time this season,” said Ross.
