Pirelli want to continue in Formula 1 beyond 2013 – Formula 1 news
Pirelli's motorsport director, Paul Hembery has expressed that they are hoping to extend their agreement beyond the 2013 Formula 1 season.
The Italian company made a three year contract in 2011 and replaced Bridgestone as the only tyre supplier. Moreover, they have enjoyed a good time in the sport so far as they have provided the tyres which are although faster in degradation due to which there
is a need of more pit stops but boost up the speed, hence encourage overtaking during the race.
Furthermore, Hembery said that they are very much keen to stay after the end of their agreement and they are looking forward to make the necessary decision during the mid of the next year. However, he said that they are searching for at least a hint before
the end of the current season about their future F1.
“We need to have a decision from the sport by June of next year, that's the closing date, although that's very late and in reality I think we need an indication before the end of this year,” he said.
In addition, he said that they see great potential in the sport and will feel very much pleased to extend their deal.
“If the sport would like us to continue and if the overall conditions remain competitive and the sport has the vision that we think it has going forwards then it remains an attractive proposition for Pirelli. We see great benefit in a sport that is genuinely
global in fact you struggle to think of any that are genuinely global every year,” he added.
It will be important to mention that he expressed his views against the tyre war as he believes that the performance which is enhanced with the help of tyres can hardly be qualified.
Additionally, it will be notable that Michael Schumacher of Mercedes criticised the Pirelli compound tyres as he suffered with the issue of tyre wear out in many races due to which he could not maximise his competitive grid slots.
Contrarily, Hembery dismissed the views of the seven-time world champion and said that they only provide what they have been asked for.
