Pirelli’s tyres for 2013 F1 season to change aerodynamics – Formula 1 news
Paul Hembery, the motorsport director of Pirelli tyres, has stated that their new tyres for the next F1 season will change the aerodynamics of the cars.
“Well the cars at least this year are not going to change too much between this year and next year,” Hembery told ESPN exclusively. “From that point of view we're hopeful of not having any big surprises and that I think for the teams is also a positive.
Although we know that the changes we've made will have an influence on things like aerodynamics for the teams; it will deflect more, the rear tyre in particular.”
He told that the tyres will be different in terms of compounds and construction both. The new tyres will provide a wider working change and some of the compounds will put out an aggressive result. He said that they are still working on relating all the different
compounds together which is the reason the tyre is still in the ‘prototype’ stage. The tyre still will be a representative of what type of tyres they will be producing for the next year.
Pirelli is going to introduce the prototypes during the Brazilian Grand Prix this weekend, which is also the last race in the current season, by providing the teams two sets of them in the first practice session on Friday. Hembery insisted that it will be
a fruitful opportunity for the teams to explore and adjust around the new tyres as testing does not start until February. He is hoping that the there is no rain as Brazil is known for its inconsistent weather conditions.
He significantly pointed out the teams which are not aiming at winning the race or the world championship saying that they can use the race to collect the data about the tyres and then take the information back home using it to develop a car around it.
Hembery is expecting a good feedback on the new tyres from the teams. The company is also hopeful of bidding farewell to this season’s tyres in traditional fashion for which the Brazilian GP is famous for.
