Piri Wango likely to win Britannia Stakes
Piri Wango is rated as favourite to win the Britannia Stakes (Heritage Handicap) (Colts & Geldings) at Ascot in England on Thursday, June 21, 2012. A cash prize of £62,250 will be awarded to the winner of the class-2 event.
The track conditions will be good to soft in the 1 mile race, which is scheduled to start at 16:25 GMT. Following runners will be seen in action: Fast Or Free, Born To Surprise, Frog Hollow, Trader Jack, Chapter Seven, Lucky Henry, Bronze Angel, Democretes,
Forest Row, Kahruman, Piri Wango, Prince Alzain, Mississippi, Nawwaar, Switzerland, Come On Blue Chip, Compton, Tidentime, Van Ellis, Hamza, Apostle, Graphic, Leqqaa, Lord Ofthe Shadows, Mister Music, Evervescent, Moon Pearl, Red Seventy and Swing Alone.
Anaconda was also scheduled to take part in the event, but the conditions do not suit his running style, thus his name has been withdrawn. He would have been in contention for a win, as his record at this level was good.
However, looking at the performances of the remaining runners, it seems that Piri Wango will cause a lot of problems for his opponents at Ascot. He does not have a lot of experience, but has been delivering some decent results over the past few events. This
will definitely encourage the punters to place a lot of bets on him.
The three-year-old gelding has participated in three races, winning a couple of them. This proves that he has the skills to match the best in the business and will be a force to reckon today.
In his most recent outing, the G. M. Lyons’ trainee was unable to make a big impression, as he finished fourth overall. He struggled with the conditions and the race distance was also short, which did not allow him to bounce back after a lacklustre start.
Piri Wango will be partnered by veteran jockey, Frankie Dettori, who has got a phenomenal record at this level. However, he has been struggling in recent times and will be looking forward to a strong show at Ascot.
Fast Or Free has also been in good form since making debut and he will not make things easy for his opponents.
