Piri Weepu inspired to carry on good work in grand final of Rugby World Cup 2011
The scrum-half for New Zealand, Piri Weepu, is inspired to perform with the same consistency he been doing since the last few games. He has become the centre of hope for New Zealand fans and their expectaions of the All Blacks to lift their second title
after 17 years.
New Zealand won their first and last RWC back in 1987 and failed to repeat history despite having the best ranked teams and have ultimately earned the label of chokers. Weepu has elevated the All Blacks in both the play-offs and has expressed his hopes to
recreate those efforts when they take on France in Eden Park, on October 23.
The scrum-half produced a stunning performances in the knock-out stages which earned him Man of the Match award in the quarter-final against Argentina and again he was impressive in the semi-final clash against Wallabies. Weepu scored four penalty goals
in the toughest match of the event and helped his side two register first win against arch rival Australia in the semi-final competitions.
All Backs had been twice beaten by Wallabies in the semi-final stages before last Sunday’s battle. Talking to media on October 21, Weepu told the reporters that he is very excited to play a vital role in his team’s victory in the biggest match of his career.
Accelerating his conversation about the forthcoming clash he said that, “You can't wait to wake up on game day, feel the buzz in the air, the excitement that is around town - not that we leave the hotel much - (but) you can sort of just feel the energy.”
Weepu further said that, “When you're a little kid in the backyard you always pretend you're playing for your country. You know you scoring the winning try, taking the winning kick so moment's likes these are moments you don't want to forget. I haven't really
been reading much of that but I like the Burger King one since I have been told I'm a great fan of food.”
All Blacks and Less Bleus will face each other in the final of Rugby World Cup 2011, on Sunday October 23, at Eden Park.
