Pirika lands successful in Prix d'Hedouville
Pirika dictated terms in the Prix d'Hedouville (Group 3) at Longchamp in France on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. She was given the best odds for victory and proved that the bookies were right in having confidence in her.
The Irish mare was given a general starting price of 12 to 5, which showed that she was expected to be dominant in the race. The punters had full faith in her abilities, thus they risked a lot of bets in her favour. However, there was some rain, which made
things tricky for all runners.
Despite that, Pirika didn’t feel any pressure and finished on top of the table by half a length. She did not find things to be easy, as some of her rivals pushed really hard to cause an upset.
The five-year-old mare was troubled at the start of the race, as she was held up to some extent by some of the slower runners. Luckily for her, the distance to cover was over one mile, which helped her bounce back strongly in the race.
Once she started building up the speed, no one managed to catch her and she crossed the finish line comfortably ahead of everyone.
Her jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot stated, “She'd already shown a good turn of foot when second in the Prix Vermeille last year and today was more of the same. They went very steadily on her comeback, it was more like 3,000m pace than 2,400m and the run of
the race suited her much better today. It was a good effort and I think she's still progressing.”
Overall, Pirika has taken part in a total of 13 races and her record is not a bad one at all. Although she has been unable to maintain a very good winning percentage, yet she has made her team proud on numerous occasions. She has won three races whereas
finished as a runner up on the same number of times.
In addition to that, the seasoned performer has secured the third spot once, which clearly shows that she cannot be taken lightly at all. She has been performing really well this year, which proves that she is not an easy nut to crack.
