  1. Do you know the county the Pirkle's were from?

I did a quick search on Georgia genealogy, I've listed a couple links below.

The about.com site for Georgia genealogy looks very useful, might be a good place to start.

  2. That's a question for your parents.  Ask them your question.

  3. The 1860 Georgia Slave Schedule lists the following Pirkle slave owners, and a description of the slaves they owned.  Unfortunately, the schedules did not record the names of the slaves, only their age, gender and color (black or mulatto):

Ambrose Pirkle - Forsyth County, GA

    1 Black Male age 28

    1 Black Male age 12

    1 Black Male age 6

    1 Black Female age 2

    J. Pirkle - Hall County, GA

    1 Black Female age 31

    1 Black Male age 30

    1 Black Female age 14

    1 Black Male age 10

    1 Mulatto Female age 8

    1 Black Female age 5

    1 Black Male age 1

    R. Pirkle - Hall County, GA

    1 Black Female age 26

    1 Mulatto Male age 8

    1 Black Female age 5

    1 Black Male age 4

    R. Pirkle is likely Robert Pirkle, a brother of Ambrose Pirkle.  J. Pirkle could be one of their brothers, or a cousin.  There are tons of Pirkles in that part of Georgia, all descendants of Jacob Pirkle who came from Germany in 1733.  If you're interested, here's a website on the family (interestingly, it says the name started out as Birkle and changed to Pirkle when they came to America):  http://www.bpirkle.com/pirkle_home.htm

If you're looking for information on your ancestors who may have been owned by a Pirkle family, we can help you.  Just give us the name of your Pirkle grandparent or great-grandparent who was living in 1930, and we can trace the family through the census back to 1870.  From there, there are other resources that can help you find the name of the slaveowner, and possibly some information about your ancestor's life during slavery.
