Pisa and Cinque Terre in one day - Is it do-able?

We will be in Rome for 3 days and we plan to do a day-trip to Pisa and Cinque Tere.

I have heard that apart from the tower there is nothing much to see in Pisa so visit there will be a quick one.

Is it possible to do these two places in one day without rushing?

Also, what is the route that we will need to take?

thanks in advance!

  1. well to get pisa from rome i think it will be like 3-4 hours, i don't even suggest u to go to the cinque terre( i am italian) but i don't think it is possible to go to pisa and then there, and then back to  rome. i suggest u to go to pisa and siena the same day, that would be a good trip. baci :D

  2. Absolutely not possible.  It will take nearly one day to make the round-trip.

Besides, it would take nearly one full day in Cinqueterre to fully appreciate its uniqueness.

If you have only 3 days in Rome, you will need all 3 of those days in Rome.

  3. Cinque Terre... what a wonderful place! One of my favourite in the world... but you need at least 2 days to visit them all (they are 5 different villages between the sea and the mountains)... so Cinque Terre + Pisa = at least 3 days in my opinion...

  4. It's nearly impossible... if you don't want to spend a day on the train!

    The travel Roma-Pisa takes about 3 - 4 hours

and Pisa - 5 Terre about an hour and half, and I think you have to change the train in La Spezia...

    You can check here: http://www.trenitalia.it/en/index.html

In Pisa the Tower is quite far from the train station, and when you go there it is a pity not to visit the Cathedral and the Baptistry which are in the same square... and maybe could be nice (despite a bit expensive) to climb on the tower...

Also at the 5Terre there is a lot to see! There is a routh which links all these five small country, the so called "Via dell'amore", wonderful to be done on foot, or you can take a boat but however it takes some hours...

In my opinion it's not a good thing to visit these 2 place in one day... maybe you could visit Pisa and another nice town in Tuscany like Siena (like said to you someone else) or you can spend a day in the magnificent Florence, they're all quite near to Rome... but if you want to do it: leave in early early morning for 5Terre and spend there the time you need... then go to Pisa... if you only want to see the tower I think it would be wonderful also to see it in the evening because it's all enlightened!

However I think that Rome is one of the best cities in the world! The Eternal one! And 3 days are nothing! Stay there! Italy is all beautiful... but more beautiful than Rome... there aren't many places!

    Good Holidays!

    Bye!

  5. The area around the tower is very nice. Nice lawn contrasted by the white buildings, I enjoyed just walking around. However, if you plan on climbing the tower plan to spend a couple hours. When you buy tickets you are given a time. If you get there early, you can get an early time. If you are coming from Rome, you probably aren't going to get there early. Plan on 15 minutes going up, 30 minutes at the top to enjoy the view and 15 minutes coming down. Pisa has a large lot for tourist parking but it isn't exactly close to the tower.

It's about 3 hours from Rome to Pisa by car. To get there at 9:00 you'd have to leave at 6:00. A couple hours there and you can be at Cinque Terre by 1:00. Stay the afternoon there and you can be back to Rome by Midnight.

I don't recommend such a cursory look a the Italian sights with such a heavy investment in travel, but if it ihas to be done, it can.
