Question:

Pistols that have interchangeable magazines

I am looking for a pistol that has interchangeable magazines with a pistol caliber carbine. Reliability is #1. I was thinking about the Glock conversion kits as I really fancy the .357 round and I could just get 2 glocks and I know the pistol itself is very reliable, but I don't know about the conversion. I am looking for redundancy overall. I would also consider a good rifle that shares ammo with a pistol in a rifle caliber even if the mags are not interchangeable. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Some after-market outfit makes carbine uppers to convert your Glock pistol into a carbine, but I don't have a clue who they are.  The Ruger PC-9 carbine though uses the P-85 & P-89 Ruger pistol magazines.  You can even get after-market 9mm magazines for these from Cheaper Than Dirt that hold 20 and even 30 rounds.  This is what I have.  Works great.

  2. Both Ruger and Beretta offer good solutions with pistol/carbine pairings. The Glock conversion is a joke, like when you see a racing wing on the back of a Chevy Cavalier.

  3. beretta carbine shares mags with beretta handguns

Marlin camp carbine shares mags with the 1911 for 45 and SmithWesson Gen 3 for 9mm

Ruger PC9 and PC40 share mags with the P series pistols

Kel-Tec's folding carbine the SUB-2000 is available in different models that match up to a specific handgun magazine, Glock, Beretta, Sig and SmithWesson for sure, maybe more now.

I think a SUB-2000 in 9mm of the type that matches the glock magazine, as you can get a glock factory 33 round mag for it

Or 3 of em, plus 1 in the chamber for an even100 rounds.  Plus the mags are about the same length of the folded gun, it all packs up so nicely

  4. Kel-tecs SUB 2000 has different versions that will accept different handgun mags.

This is straight off their site.

    9mm :  Glock 17, Glock 19, S&W 59, Beretta 92, SIG 226

    .40 Cal : Glock 22, S&W 4006, Beretta 96, SIG 226

Kel-tec also has the PLR-16 which is a .223 pistol that will accept standard M16/AR-15 mags.

  5. I don't know if the Beretta carbine magazine is used in a Beretta pistol, but that would be as close as you could get on current production arms.  Marlin had made the Camp 9 and the 45 carbine, talking S&W handgun and M1911A1 magazine respectively.  Ruger had made the PC9 and PC 40 both Police carbines that took the magazine from thir similar chambered handguns.  All of these are out of production.

Wait you could get an AR pistol and AR-15 rifle, but why.

There are plenty of good pistol chambered rifles out there from lever action to semi auto.
