Question:

Pit access for spectators?

I don't know if Indy allows pit access as Champ/CART did, of course after paying the required admission. My question is: Will I be allowed access on crutches?

  1. you should. as long as you have a pass. That's all they want.

  2. The IRL will allow access with crutches.  The problem is that many of the tracks don't sell pit passes to the general public, even if you have a ticket to the race.  However, if you have a pit pass, and meet the requirements of wearing the appropriate pit access attire, they will let you in with crutches.  I've had pit passes to some of the races and I've seen people with wheelchairs, crutches, canes, etc. in the pits.

  3. If you're talking about the Indy 500, they have two basic levels of access.  The first is called a Bronze Badge and sold this year for $100.  It allows you access to all garage areas on all open days except race day.  The second level is called a Silver Badge.  That allows you into the pits and is not available for sale to the public.  You have to know someone high up or be on an important payroll to get that.  The link below is a fan site which has more info about the badges if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page.

Personally, I've seen people in wheelchairs with bronze badges, so crutches shouldn't be a problem.
