I brought my pit boxer mix to the vet yesterday... She got all her vacanations, and they sent me home to give her deworming meds. I gave the pill to her, and usually she sleeps with me and she didnt. I got up in the morning to take her out for potty time, and she whimpered and whined like she couldnt get up. Then, going down the stairs she acted like it was painful, again whimpering and whining. I took her back in, and ever since shes been sleeping... I tried giving her a treats (mind you, she usually follows me around all day looking for treats) and she put it in her mouth and dropped it.

Is it the dewormer? Or should I take her back to the vet?

  1. I'd take her back to the Vet, but wouldn't worry about it too much.  It's probably the dewormer medication, or like people, sometimes animals have bad reactions to shots.

  2. take her back to the vet right away i would phone ahead but do it now

  3. hopefully it will all be over soon

this happened to one puppy and one kitten of mine

in both cases they got better in 24-48 hours

i called the vet and they said it was a reaction that

a small percentage of animals have from the vaccinations

they tried to say it is just sore at the injection site

but I told them that they were sore all OVER!

so much so, that I couldn't even pick them up! the kitten

was really bad off.  moaning in pain when touched

    lethargic

just like yours, mine slept and stayed alone

I think because they hurt so much, but also animals tend to isolate themselves sometimes when they

don't feel good.  maybe because they do not

understand what is happening to them, and

that is one reason i love and protect animals so

much.  ( much like some people are advocates for

kids)  because kids and animals rely on US to help

them, they do not have a voice, so we speak for them!

I hope your baby has a swift recovery!

Check with your vet if there is throwing up, and/or the dog does no eat pretty soon, especially if the dog will

    not drink water....just in case

BUT I am sure she will be fine!!!!

  4. It is normal for dogs to be lethargic a couple days following vaccines. Also, she may be painful where the vaccines were administered. The dewormer can somtimes result in nausea/gi upset.

I would give it another day.

Signs of vaccine reaction are facial swelling, hives, vomiting, diarrhea or respiratory difficulty.

If you have observed any of these - I would take her to the vet.

  5. sometimes the shots cause them to be tired and the area where the needle went in is sore. check for little bumps and i bet u will find a little swelling. the dewormer can make them tired also. give her a few days to perk back up and give her lots of atrtention and hand feed her. if she is still the same in the next 48 hrs call ur vet back. good luck

  6. Don't take ANY chances.  Something must of set off a reaction either in her shots or in her deworming pills.  Although reactions aren't unheard of, that doesn't mean they are safe!!  GET her to the vet asap!!!  Good luck!!

  7. I would call your vet ASAP and let them know what is going on with her. She sounds like she is having a bad reaction to either the shots or the dewormer.

Do not wait. Yes, shots and dewormer will make her sickly, but not like that.

  8. Call your vet now take her in immediately.  This does NOT sound like a normal response and you don't want to lose her. -!-
