what is with all of you people opposing the ban on pit bulls? just because you own one and youre in denial? did you know that theres probly an 80% it will get a wild hair one day and rip you open? do you know that of the 800,000 or so documented dog attacks on humans in the U.S. each year...pit bulls are responsible for about 79% of those attacks...and did you know that the majority of those numbers involved children 12 years old and younger? the studies on bull terriers have shown that they are genetically engineered to kill what they know they can overpower....you never hear about a 30 year old guy 6'5" 250 lbs. who is brutally attacked by pit bulls...ive heard they cost around $500 and they even have to be insured? With the statistics of their visciousness and just by looking at them it easy to see that this is NOT a pet...its a hazard to small friendly pets and even worse...innocent children.....

  1. First off, did you know that all of the statisics are c**p?  There are over 30 different breeds of dogs that are mistaken for pits.  When a dog attacks, in the heat of the moment people see the dog as a pit....even though it could be a Boxer, or a Mastiff breed.  So your Stats are Bull.  The only reason you do not hear about the little dog attacks is because they do not cause as much damage as a big dog.  So there is usualy no reason to report the attack and the people usualy just get rid of the dog.

Second, Did you know that there is a difference between DOG agression and HUMAN agression?  The pit bull had dog agression bred into it, but had Human agression bred out of it.  The reason?  When the dogs are in the pit fighting the owners have to safely get in the pit WITH the fighting dogs and get them out without getting attacked themselves.  I have a Pit/American Bulldog mix who is dog agressive to dogs OUTSIDE of our home, but lives for people.  A shy, scared or agressive pit around humans is unusual for the breed but people are not aware of that.  My pit you can grab and pull her ears, tail, whatever you can get your hands on and she is great! I have a baby comming in October and I am more concerned about my Min Pin (who, guess what is people and dog agressive and has cause dog fights and bitten people before) than I am about my Pit.  Even my chihuahua mix has bitten other dogs and people before! We don't give our Pit mix the oportunity to get near strange dogs since we know she is agressive, but she has never, not even once attacked a person.  They are not geneticaly engenered to attack and kill what they can overpower....otherswise mine would have done it years ago.  She is 70lbs and could easily kill my 6 lbs Chi......yet she hasnt.....wow, what a killer.

And it does not cost me $500 to insure her.  I have full covereage for her for $50 a month......

  2. Pit Bulls, more properly known as Stafordshire Terriers, get a bum rap because they LOOK vicious.  To people afraid of dogs, EVERY aggressive dog is a pit bull. Victims of dog attacks always assume it's a Pit Bull because of the hype. The truth is that most people can't tell a staffordshire from any of a number of similar looking breeds and a lot of people can't tell them from a German Shepherd.

As purebreds, which are higher strung and less intelligent than mongrels go, Staffies aren't particularly aggressive. The British call them the "Nanny Dog," because of their tendency to adopt and mother just about anything. Staffies are often the choice of Zoos and Shelters worldwide to act as surrogate mothers for orphaned animals.

Collies, Malemutes, Greyhounds and German Shepherds are all naturally more human and dog aggressive than Staffies, as are boxers--which are often mistaken for Staffies. Malemutes and Shepherds are also cat predatory. So much for "Genetic Engineering."

But, with Pit Bulls, as with any other breed of dog, it's the owners, not the dogs who are the problem.  It's handling that usually determines whether a dog becomes aggressive. Anyone convicted in connection with Dog Fights should never be allowed to own a dog again--actually they should never be allowed to see the sun again, but that's not possible because of the way we waste court dates and prison beds enforcing Drug Laws.  People who don't control their aggressive dogs should get prison time.

Forget the dogs. Start neutering some irresponsible owners and the problem will shrink pretty rapidly.

  4. I know what you mean. I work in a vets office and some people brought in their aggressive pitbull who had scars all over her from their other pitbull and the owner just said I didn't know that you couldn't have 2 pitbulls together. I was talking to one of the techs and she said that she really hated pitbulls and she told me about when she worked for the ASPCA and rescue groups would come and take pitbull babies that didn't even have their eyes open yet and bottle raise them and then one day they would snap and become really aggressive. So its not just the people who raise them its their genes and stupid people decided to breed them in a poor manner and they made them what most people see them as today. Even with all the statistics though I just cant give up on them. I also worked at a dog rescue for a number of years and one of my favorite dogs was Krissy a black pitbull. She was a real sweety but people would walk right past her. I always felt bad that she got lumped in that group of mean dogs because of her breed. I guess it just all depends.

  5. I have two pit bulls and they are the most friendly dogs you will EVER meet. It disgusts me that people like you are so ignorant about the breed and hate on them all the time. I had a golden retriever who I had to get rid of because she attacked a man coming up our driveway. My pit bulls would never do anything like that. They might l**k them to death but thats about it. These dogs are the most loyal dogs ever. There are mean pit bulls out there because of the way that they are raised. So get your facts straight.

Hate The Deed Not the Breed.

  6. Have you any thoughts as to why they act that way. I think humans and their treatment has a lot to do with it. Theres a lot of animal attacks out there but no one has ever tried to extinct the species.
