What do you think when you hear "pit bull". First thoughts that come to your head, and why? Any other thoughts or opinions on pit bulls? If so, why do you think that way? If you are going to have an opinion, then you need to be able to defend it.

Just curious to see

  1. I think they're lovlely dogs, and don't deserve the reputation they seem to have been given by the media.  My first thoughts are normally anger at some idiot claiming they're all vicious, child biting, postman savaging monsters. I have chickens that would do more damage than the pit bulls I know.

I think half the problem is yobs buying pit bull and staffy types as a fashion accessory, without knowing how to look after it, and thinking it's cool to have a vicious dog. Personally I think these yobs should be fed to the aforementioned vicious dogs, starting with the feet.

Anyone who claims that all of the dogs in a breed have a bad or vicious disposition do not know what their talking about, all dogs can become nasty if they're not properly socialised or disciplined, whether they're yorkies pit bulls or mastiffs.

  2. when i think of the dog pit bull hears what i think:

pretty, powerful, obedient, faithful, misunderstood, sturdy,  protector

it really makes me made that people ruin the name of the pit bull because of there bit and power. Not only that but i can't think of a reason that people would still us them for dog fighting dogs they have more reason to be hear then just that!!!!!

  3. Well, when I think of a pit bull I think aggressive. When I lived in California lots of my friends got chased by aggressive pit bulls. Also, when most people get a pit bull its because they want to train them as guard dogs, which are usually turned into aggressive dogs. However, this is an unjust assumption. Pit bulls can be very good pets. It all depends on their environment and how they're trained. Dogs with reputations don't necessarily have to live up to them when being trained by a good natured owner.

  4. I think softies, big cuddly lump, protector! I have one and they are the best breed I have ever had.  I have 4 kids and he watches over them like hes a babysitter

  5. Um, Whenever i hear of them, I cringe i dont know why! But i always hear bad things about them. If i get one, im sure my opinion will change! Im really, not sure of them!!

  6. The first thing that comes to my mind is friendly and  cute. Bully dogs are breed to be fighting dogs their not born that way, its not an instinct, pit bulls, rottweilers, ect., are actually very nice, meanness is a learned behavior. If they're never taught how to be kind, how do you expect them to be? The reason i feel this way is because i have been greeted by many pit bulls and all were very friendly.

  7. The first thing that comes to mind is my experience with them, and how much I love the breed. I don't *own* a pit bull, but I do live with and train them. Each one that comes through my door becomes a part of my family immediately.

They are one of my favorite breeds, if not my absolute favorite. I don't even have to know the dog personally before it has a little piece in my heart. They are such wonderful, and painfully misunderstood dogs. Its very unfair to hate the breed when you have no idea what they're like, and the only thing you know about them is what Channel 5 News has told you about the faux bite rates and aggression.

Its wrong and unfair, and I hope to see a change in society.

When people tell me that my trainees are going to turn and kill me, I just want to scream. Its the same thing as my saying that every black person will end up in jail for theft, or every white person will end up on Americas Most Wanted list for rape and murder.

Six incidents is not the majority.

Pits are responsible (statistically) for ONLY six bites per year.

  8. Loyal

    Friendly

    Loving

    Always smiling.

People get the wrong impression of Pit Bulls.  I have a 2 year old male named Jordan and he is the best dog.  He has been professionaly trained, passed obediance classes and has a very high tempermant.  A lot of people think as Pit Bulls as "mean" or "guard dogs".  By no means is this ture.  It is all on how you raise them.  My dog does not bark and anyone can walk right into my house and my dog will just greet them.

I would never own another breed of dog.   Pit Bulls are by far the most loyal and loving dogs when properly trained.

Here is some info about this wonderful friendly breed.

    A Good Pit Bull

A Good Pit Bull is a very people-oriented dog. It's a dog who smiles at your visitors and greets them with a wagging tail. A good Pit Bull is confident and alert, and like most canines, will let you know if there is something around the house or in your driveway. However, a good Pit Bull will let YOU take care of intruders because YOU are the leader and its YOUR job to protect the pack. Your dog should not have to interpret threats and act on them.

You "hopefully" didn't get a Pit Bull to protect you anyway. If you needed a guard dog, you would have looked into other breeds more suitable for protection, or best, just get a good alarm system. You would not impose to an animal the responsibility to judge situations and make intelligent decisions that could eventually bite him back in the *** if ever he was wrong...!

You got a Pit Bull because you wanted a trustworthy and friendly companion, and maybe a dog with an impressive look and confidant demeanor so people would "think" you have a good guard dog. You have since realized that YOU better be the guard dog because your Pit Bull is indeed more at risk of being stolen than your TV.

Don't be bummed. If ever you are the victim of an act of violence, a good Pit Bull will probably instinctively attempt to defend you because you are the food provider and he depends on you for his survival (and yes, he loves you too ;-) If you are not being aggressed though, a good Pit Bull will be friendly with anyone with no distinction in regard to age, s*x, skin color, clothing, ect, because a good Pit Bull is a stable dog and you have socialized him well.

You can take your good Pit Bull in public and do breed PR with him because you trust your dog and your dog trusts you. He is not unpredictable, unstable, fearful, uncontrollable, or selective of who he "likes" and who makes him uncomfortable. Your good Pit Bull will work with you to improve the reputation of the breed by showing people how cool and friendly good Pit Bulls really are.

If your dog is not like that, please do not take him in public and do all you can to keep him out of trouble. Remember that we are the solders of an important battle. Our dogs are no ordinary dogs. They are being "targeted", "pointed at" and "outcast" by society. They are on the verge of being completely banned out of this country. Our dogs have something to prove right now, and so do we.

Good Pit Bulls have good owners!

the last one is the "scariest"

Tanisha C..take a look at my "ugly" boys...

ADD:my boys even behave enough for me to foster dogs!!  They LOVE having new friends every couple months!!

  10. To be honest, the very first thing I think of when I hear the word "pit bull" out loud is ignorance - nine times out of ten the next words that are going to come from someone's mouth is, "But, why is it so nice...?"

I've been raised around APBTs since I was born (and I swear I still have all my limbs) and I have nothing but great things to say about them. They're the epitome of "loyal dog" and I couldn't possibly imagine living without one right by my side.

  11. Well i would have to say pitt bulls are the dogs for attacking other people or things. But in opinion you can get a friendly pitt bull it depends on the breeder. I saw a pitt bull and it was friendlier then a golden retriever I know. So like my friend always says don't judge a book by it's cover. Or a dog by it's reputation.

  12. Many irresponsible owners. Is the first thing that comes to mind.

Pits are not bad dogs but many owners have no business owning them. They are a power full dog that needs guidance. NOT a young man who is looking for a big bad cool dog.

  13. To be completely honest, when I hear "pit bull" I get scared.  I don't know much about the breed other than what I have heard when someone has been attacked.  My sister-n-law has a pit bull and it's the biggest baby I have seen, but on the other hand I am still afraid of them. I am also scared of doberman pinchers.  I should be scared of german shepherds too, but I own one.  I am not scared of mine, but someone else's shepherd, I would be afraid.  I really haven't been around enough of them to make an honest opinion of them.

  14. I think 'beautiful dogs' I love all the bully breeds, they are so handsome, i have never seen a 'true' APBT because i am in UK where they are banned but i still like them and i would have no hesitation in owning one if they weren't

  15. Teeth

    Barking

    Blood

    Fight

    Stiches

    Hope This Helps!!!

  16. i think of a dog that has a bad reputation thinks to bad people for forcing them to fight and i think they are pretty and if raised the right way a very good dog despite there reputation

  17. I know, this is bad to think, but i think of fear.

Those dogs really scare me. I know it's based

from their owners neglect that can cause any

dog to be mean, but this is the kind of dog you

hear more about hurting people. I have seen so

many animal planet specials about these dogs

hurting people when I was younger. I'm still just

really scared of them. It's not only Pit bulls that

scare me, but Great Danes do as well. When

I was younger I got bit in the face by one and

had to go to the hospital. I think just when I was

younger bigger dogs scare me, but not as much

as a pit bull because of the things I hear about them.

  18. I think of BSL, and then I immediately throw a mini tantrum in my head (or sometimes the nearest object). It makes me so angry that people have all these negative thoughts about a dog breed.

To me, that's like racism. Not every person, or dog, is going to fit their stereotype. Yes, some do, but that's just a coincidence. It doesn't mean everyone else is doomed to do so. It's just ridiculous.

  19. DANGER!!!! AND UGLY!! there very dangerous!! they can kill a small child and they are not a family pet!! don't get one!!

this girl got attacked by one and her face is now messed up for the rest of her life!!!

also this lady got attacked by too in my neighbor hood and she is getting surgery now!! and has to be in a wheel chair too for the rest of her life!!

    even baby ones are dangerous!!

  20. wonderful lovely breed. Misunderstood now a days.

  21. I think that pitbulls are the best friends that you will ever have. I have had a lot of different breeds in my life and they are the most lovable of all the breeds. I have two pitbulls and a great dane dalmation mix. The two pits are so cuddly and friendly. I think any dog will attack you if they are pushed or raised to fight.

  22. When I think Pit Bull, I think, stupid, irresponsible, ignorant owners!!! Then I think, sweet wonderful dogs who are so misunderstood because their owners are so irresponsible, their breeder was so irresponsible, and the people that hate them are so ignorant!!!

There is NO reason people should hate these dogs, if they want to hate something they need to be hating the owners and the backyard breeders that breed these dogs!!!

  23. I think "dog breed". I don't think a whole breed should be punished, because of a few " bad ones". I have a rottweiler and a chauhuahua and I can tell you the little guy will bite you quicker.

  24. when i hear Pit Bull i think "beautiful breed".. great working dogs, but alot of irresponsible owners, that need to be taught a lesson or two on how to treat a living being.

lately when i hear Pit Bull i think. homeless, shelters, BYB, neglect, and very disgusted at how this breed is being treated. But then i look down at mine and think love, loyalty, and alot of hope.
