Pitcher Scott Diamond all set for Minnesota Twins 2013 rotation - MLB News
Minnesota Twins’ pitcher Scott Diamond is all set to be on the rotation for the ball club next year. The pitcher, who was one of the candidates of the American League Rookie of the Year Award, has performed exceedingly well in 2012.
Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire is certain the 26-year-old will be playing for the club from the start of the season. Ron is confident that Scott is a dependable pitcher for the team. "I would say that without even thinking about it," Gardenhire said. "He's
definitely one of the guys we count on for next year."
Diamond has a big turnaround in 2012. He did not make the opening rotation after Spring Training and was sent to Triple-A Rochester. He performed well for the Twins’ farm team and in May was called for Twins’ duty.
The pitcher from Guelph, Ontario did not disappoint. He posted a 12-9 winning record a 3.54 ERA and an impressive 1.24 WHIP. He was indeed the pick of the Twins’ pitchers in this year’s season. His numbers this year were far better than the ones he posted
in 2011 season in the seven games he played in, for the ball club.
Ron Gardenhire was not the only one impressed by the performance by the young talent. Twins’ catcher, Joe Mauer had some kind word for Diamond as well. The catcher called him a bright spot and was impressed by the pitcher’s attention to details and willingness
to learn.
“He definitely does a lot of work studying film and studying the other hitters, and kind of one of the more in-depth conversations,” he said. “So that's real good that he pays attention to those things and he wants to learn."
The pitcher himself is quite satisfied how the things have fared so far. He is looking forward to carry the good work into the next season and improve upon it as well. "Personally I'm pretty happy, but as a team we didn't do too well," Diamond said. "So
I'm going to look to improve on some things for next year, maybe some repertoire stuff. But for the most part, I'm going to try to contribute the same way I did this year."
Scott has been smart when it comes to dealing with hitters. He does not have the most vicious fast ball but manages well by analysing the videos of the opposing batters and their style of play and tendencies.
The Minnesota Twins will be hoping that Scott can mirror his performance from 2012 in the next season. The team is struggling in its pitching department and if other pitchers can throw as well as Scott, the team can certainly put on a much improved show.
Manager Ron Gardenhire and his coaches will be hoping for just that.
