Pitchers with the most wins in 2011 Major League Baseball season - Part-1
Last year the baseball fans witnessed some tremendous performances from their favourite pitchers. Whether it was American League or National League, the hurlers threw with some unbelievable displays, their sinkers and swings, flat or slow pitches did not
create any room for the batters. They destroyed the opposing batters not only with their pitches but also with their psychological attacks.
Stats show how catastrophic the season was for the batters that 14 pitchers won at least 17 games while 33 pitchers grabbed 14 or more in 2010. The same impetus is being on the way by the ball throwers in 2011, the season is in a crucial phase and until
now, most teams have merely relied on their pitchers except a few.
No matter who will lead the chart this year, whether it will be from the Phillies or defending World Series champions San Francisco Giants or from New York Yankees? The real controversy is who will be more devastating this season? Until now each team has
played at least 80 games in 2011 season and most of the top starters have played at least 18 games, who are the top five pitchers, leading the chart with their most triumphs.
Below is a list of pitchers with the highest number of wins so far in the MLB season.
Jair Jurrjens
The Atlanta Braves’ wall-destroyer and stormy hurler Jair Jurrjens is no doubt holding the top mark in the table with his 12 wins in just 16 starts. The 25-year-old right-hand ball thrower, who has been unaware of the word ‘loss’ throughout this season,
has lost only three games while he went for no-decision in only one of his games.
Until July 6, Jurrjens has not lost two consecutive games in a row but two times he has won more than three games. He tossed two full games, one each on April 16 and second on July 1 and in each game he got his win, as the Braves did not allow more than
three runs and grabbed their victory.
Until now, he has 12-3 record with an extraordinary 1.87 ERA over his 110.2 innings in which he allowed 25 runs on 93 hits including only five home-runs. One of his exceptional qualities that surprised the experts was his large number of wins with a low
number of strikes. He has made just 65 strike-outs, far more than an average pitcher.
Showing blistering display and impressing even his opponents are the things that would make him the best pitcher of 2011.
Carsten Charles Sabathia
Do you need strength to set the opponents under extreme pressure? To some extent. However, and to whatever extent it is true but it is not for the New York Yankees’ 30-year-old lefty Carsten Charles Sabathia, who did not even use his full technique to outclass
all the new and old pitchers. Having 12 wins including five-game long streak that might go further, the tremendously talented pitcher is on the second position.
Why on second? When he has same number as Jurrjens, it is because he has lost four games and has a 2.90 ERA that is far less than Jurrjens. He has given just 51 runs on 130 hits including five home-runs on 136.2 innings of 19 starts. He is also one of those
pitchers who have taken more than 115 strike-outs in this season.
Keeping his performance in view, the baseball fans has selected him in the All-Star game for the fifth time and if he keeps on exhibiting phenomenal form, he might easily pass through Jurrjens in the coming days.
