Pitching depth dominates the outing as Seattle Mariners manage 2-1 win over New York Yankees

A great pitching contest at Safeco Field in Seattle on Wednesday, September 14 has resulted in the 2-1 win of the Seattle Mariners over the American League leaders New York Yankees.
The game was completely associated with the pitchers from both sides. In the first phase Seattle Mariners’ starter Jason Vargas performed brilliantly against the Yankees Ivan Nova. Vargas pitched outstanding sliders, changeups and sudden curveballs to send
six batters into the camp striking them out.
Vargas allowed only three hits, one each in the third, sixth and the seventh. His only allowed run was in the seventh inning when he gave a loose pitch to Yankees’ batter Nick Swisher, who launched it into the left-field for a game tier home-run.
Yankees’ Nova was also pitching effectively to put his full effort to take his club into another win. He also permitted only one RBI run but it was in the fourth inning. Nova had a problem to hold his pitching into the strike zone. He permitted four walks
and five hits in just over seven innings.
After both starters left the mound in the seventh inning, relievers entered and dominated. Jamey Wright landed at the mound for Seattle in the middle of the seventh and shined with just over a single no-hitter inning. Brandon League succeeded him and struggled
but managed to complete the ninth without allowing any run.
On the other hand, David Robertson took responsibility from Nova and finished the eighth making one strike-out over his eight pitches. Rafael Soriano struck-out two and gave one hit in the ninth to force the game into extra innings.
Both clubs were at their best when the game entered into the tenth. Mariners employed Tom Wilhelmsen and he acted as per the expectation of his manager. Tom worked the tenth and eleventh inning without allowing any hit while Steve Delabar closed down the
game with his no-hitter top of the tenth.
Yankees’ Boone Logan worked the tenth and part of the eleventh but gave away two hits. Cory Wade took him over in the twelfth inning but received a dazzling blow from the Mariners’ Luis Rodriguez.
Yankees are still at the top of the American League and are obvious to make into post season but they have to take care in the previous outings.
