Pitching key for Game 3 between the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals – MLB Playoffs
The Milwaukee Brewers’ pitching coach Rick Kranitz has underscored the importance of pitching for Game 3 of the National League Championship Series. The ongoing best-of-seven series is tied 1-all as the Brewers will take on the Cardinals on Wednesday, October
12 at Busch Stadium.
"Look, if we're going to win this thing, we're going to win it with our pitching," Kranitz said Tuesday. “That's why we got here.”
Lots of how the Milwaukee Brewers will deny the Cardinals’ offence the free rein hinges upon the aggressive start by the defence. That responsibility squarely falls on the strong shoulders of Brewers’ starter Yovani Gallardo. His ability to pitch aggressive
innings and change the course of the game with a just a few pitches is a definite plus for the team.
Kranitz thinks the coordinated combination of defence backed by offence can work out the best for the Milwaukee Brewers.
With the likes of Ryan Braun, Carlos Gomez, Nyjer Morgan, Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, Casey McGehee, Yuniesky Betancourt and Taylor Green adding strength to the Brewers’ offence, it is Yovani Gallardo, Zack Greinke, Randy Wolf, Shaun Marcum and Marco Estrada
alone who can pep up the defence.
The team manager makes it simple by asserting the fact that there is no formula for winning apart from having a good combination of starting pitchers.
“I don't think there is a perfect formula, but I don't think you can win this thing without good starting pitching," manager Ron Roenicke said. "Our starters, that's why we are where we are today.”
With the Brewers’ offence doing their work with remarkable efficacy, putting the team on the winning front all the season, much now relies on how the defence executes the responsibility hanging on their shoulders.
The Brewers have not pitched well in the post-season. Striking evidence of this could be the last game’s result which was 12-3. It therefore becomes challenging to change the narrative by disarming the Cardinals’ offence on Wednesday. Milwaukee will be looking
to put in a good performance and dominate early in Game 3.
