How many more mph can you gain by pitching off of a mound instead of flat ground??

  1. Not that much maybe 5-10 MPH. Pitchers throw 98 miles per hour from doing that. http://baseball.com

  4. For some it could be drastic like 10 mph, but for most it is 3-5 mph and then there are guys that do not change much at all (maybe 1 mph). Your focus should never be on flat ground throwing, it serves no purpose to pitching. Think about it. If you are going to pitch off the mound in the game, then why would you practice on anything else but a pitching mound?

    The only way you are going to get better with velocity, which is what I am assuming you are trying to find the answer to, is to increase your flexibility, train explosively, and work off that mound religiously while videotaping your mechanics.
