Pitching prospect Matt Moore called up by Tampa Bay Rays – MLB News
Having won seven of the last eight games they have played, the Tampa Bay Rays have decided to go for a budding player with the knack of pitching. Matt Moore who has turned out to be the best pitching prospect lately has attracted the attention of the Rays.
Moore is expected to play against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday. The 23-year-old left-hander was being tipped as the top pitching prospect around for quite a while now. This Minor League player will have enough opportunity to establish practical evidence
of his playing superiority in the Major League as well.
His 27 starts are promising for a player of his age. He has held 1.92 ERA in the games he has started for Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham in 2011. If that alone does not suffice, there are more that he has done as a starter. The fact that he has
210 strike-outs in 155 innings and 46 walks made him a likely prospect for the Tampa Bay Rays.
Moore received sparse attention initially when the 6ft 2in lefty was drafted in 2007. But very few people would have thought that he would at some point in time, be where the likes of David Price, Wade Davis, James Shields, Jeremy Hellickson and Jeff Nieman
stood. Having a look at such a list of starters, the Tampa Bay Rays seem one of the most competitive teams out there with this line up.
There is something predictably unpredictable about the young pitchers. Reasons vary. One, being the fact that the old veterans who represent their respective teams somehow remain subject to tremendously vigorous attention by both the hitters and pitchers
of the other teams. That is, with their expertise increasing, the old pitchers somehow become predictable.
As for the Tampa Bay Rays this new potentially fledgling star, like any other youngster, it is equally difficult to know what the player is capable of and most importantly, what weaknesses the starter might have. The 12-3 record of Moore, therefore, indicates
that there is practically a great deal that he has on offer once he starts playing.
Being a rookie, Moore will indeed undergo an intense time to adapt to the ferociously competition-oriented professional world of baseball, especially Major League Baseball. As the 2011 World Series is around the corner with a lot to be desired, the Tampa
Bay Rays will look at Moore as well to perform up to the mark.
It will be interesting to see what type of impact the young pitcher will have on the Rays. His Minor League statistics are excellent, but when it comes to the Major League, things can become quite different. Only time will tell how well Moore can adjust
and consistently perform for the Rays.
