  1. WHIP means "Walks and Hits per Innings Pitched"

It measures how much baserunners the pitcher allows in an inning.

For example, if your WHIP is 1.00, you average about only 1 baserunner per inning, which is great. The lower the WHIP the better.

  2. WHIP stands for "walks and hits per inning pitched". It is found by adding a pitcher's number of walks and base hits allowed, then dividing by the number of innings pitched. The lower the WHIP number you have the better.
