Pittsburgh Penguins' captain Sidney Crosby also suffering from neck injury after check-up -NHL Update
While having been forced out of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season due to his reoccurring concussion woes, which also was a reason for his season ending injuries last year, Sidney Crosby is reported to also have a neck injury, further
complicating issues.
Doctors and the Pittsburgh Penguins team confirmed the news about their captain and former first overall draft pick, which is something certainly surprising not having heard of any such issues in the past, especially back in January of 2011 when he sustained
the injury.
"The diagnosis of Dr. Robert S. Bray, a neurological spine specialist based in Los Angeles, is that Sidney Crosby had suffered a neck injury in addition to a concussion," the release read. "Dr. Bray reports that the neck injury is fully healed. Those findings
will be evaluated by independent specialists over the next few days. The most important goal all along has been Sidney's return to full health, and we are encouraged that progress continues to be made."
It is still not sure at the moment whether one of the league’s best players will be able to make a comeback later on in the season or not, but according to rumours which have begun spreading after the news about his neck injury broke, Crosby is not expected
to be coming back at all this year.
Pittsburgh Penguins’ general manager, Ray Shero, was also not able to confirm what his current situation is like and what it could potentially lead up to, but was obviously optimistic for his top forward.
"He's not going to (play) until those symptoms resolve. Hopefully (we'll) have him back at some point here soon," Shero said.
The 24-year-old finished off the season by having played only eight games after his highly anticipated comeback with 12 points (2 goals, 10 assists).
Watching Sidney Crosby play on the ice once again is not only the desire of many fans around the globe but also of players as well since he provided a competitive level like no other in the league, allowing his counterparts to test their abilities to the
max.
