Pittsburgh Penguins' general manager, Ray Shero, comes out on Sidney Crosby, regards condition as well
It was expected sooner or later, but Pittsburgh Penguins general manager, Ray Shero, came out with latest updates on team captain, Sidney Crosby’s condition much sooner than expected and allowed much of the hockey world to breathe a sigh of relief, as he
released his statements on the issue late Sunday night.
Shero also assured fans and speculators who have held their breath ever since the 24-year-old centre sustained season ending injuries back in January after taking double hits to the head in back-to-back games.
"There are going to be some symptoms with this injury, but nothing where he's had to shut it down or anything", Shero said, noting that he was in contact with Crosby over the weekend. "He's pushed himself, which is good".
After months of rest and regular checkups, Crosby has been cleared for mild, non-contact based practice matchups, along with weight training and the cardio workouts he would usually be doing at this time of the offseason.
It was later learnt that Shero had no intention of dealing with any issue as of now until and unless there was a major development with something regarding Pittsburgh Penguins, but due to the enormous speculations and rumors that flew around the internet,
he felt as if they must be addressed.
"I'm only interested in making sure he's comfortable when he returns to play, end of story", Shero said while assuring the fans as much as possible. "I'm about the bigger picture with this thing".
Something that still remains unsure is whether Crosby will participate against Vancouver Canucks vs. Pittsburgh penguins season opener on October 6, but is the words of Ray Shero, it is something which they will look forward to when the time comes.
"He will not be asked to play or pushed to play or cleared to play one minute before he's ready to play". Shero said. "That said, he's come a long way this summer".
The former first overall pick of the 2005 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by Pittsburgh is expected to appear in the teams’ training camp, which kicks off in September. It will be then, Crosby’s condition will be able to be assessed.
