Pittsburgh Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby speaks out, unclear about return –NHL offseason Update
Sidney Crosby, considered to be the best player currently in the National Hockey League (NHL) and a confirmed future hall of famer, finally came out of the fog and spoke to the media, briefing them on his health status at the moment along with information
on when the hockey world could see him back on the ice.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, September 7, at the Pittsburgh Penguins home arena, Crosby expressed on how he is feeling better than ever but there are still doubts on whether he as fully recovered or not since he is still getting concussion
related symptoms.
Only 10 days remain before the starting of the teams’ training camp as the upcoming regular season kicks off in October but Crosby has assured that retirement is not in the pipeline, as many people had speculated and spread rumours about prior to his press
conference.
“Mentally, I feel good — the last three weeks it’s the best I’ve felt so far”, Crosby said. “It’s been a tough road, but retirement? No”.
Dr. Mickey Collins, director of the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program in Pittsburgh, has described Crosby’s situation as very far from over and that he will not be cleared by the medical staff anytime soon to play.
"We're not even close to that now", said Dr. Mickey Collins said.
Dr. Collins also asserted that it will take time but Crosby will eventually get better and hopefully play like he never had a concussion in the first place. There is just a lot of uncertainty on when that time will come when Sidney Crosby will be back on
the ice like nothing ever happened.
"Sid has made exceptional progress toward improving and becoming normal", Collins said. "In order for him to go back to play, he needs to be reconditioned 100 per cent without having symptoms. … There is no timeline on this".
Sidney Crosby expressed how he knows that his fans are frustrated and described the feelings as mutual. Pittsburgh Penguins are near the start of a new season which they hope would be much better from the previous one and having Crosby on the line-up is
a must.
