Pittsburgh Penguins General Manager Ray Shero pays tribute to coach Lou Lamoriello -NHL Update
While Pittsburgh Penguins general manager, Ray Shero, might not be on the same side of New Jersey Devils GM, Lou Lamoriello, but that does not stop the National Hockey League (NHL) executive from praising how talented of a person he really is.
Having had the experience of playing against Lamoriello when the Devils GM was with the Providence College as the head of their coaching staff, Shero remembers how excellently the now New Jersey head made his moves and led the team.
"I followed his career when he became athletic director at Providence and then left to go to the Devils in 1987, and to see where his career has gone is fantastic," Shero told NHL.com. "I'd just gotten out of school when he went to New Jersey. I think what
really stands out to me is his honest approach in dealing with people and with his teams."
Lamoriello is one of the longest serving general managers in NHL history and being with the New Jersey team, he has taken the Devils to new heights, including a recent appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Los Angeles Kings in 2012, in which they
barely lost by an inch.
"Lou is a great asset for the game, a great ambassador, really smart," Shero added. "When I first came in as an assistant GM and was able to go to the GM meetings, Harry Sinden [of the Boston Bruins] was there. You hear about Harry, but then you see him
and hear his ideas and it's the same thing [as Lamoriello]. It's pretty amazing how smart he is about the game of hockey."
There is no way that the Devils could have been so good without Lou in the front office, many people who know the GM say, and seeing how New Jersey has continuously worked harder than any other club, including being the most consistent, it is not hard to
see why Lamoriello continues to hold his position.
Shero is has always thought of Lamoriello being his role model in every situation and hopes that one day, people may look up to him as they do to the Devils GM.
