Question:

Pittsburgh Penguins Goalie Situtation?

I got in a heated debate with my brother a few days ago about Ray Shero's choice on picking TWO goalies. When we already have enough... Gaaaaah.

Kurt (that's my brothers name) said that it was smart because Conklin's getting older and usually after a certain age they have no choice but to retire..

Personally, i think Dany Sabourin is a horrible goalie.. For reasons i won't go into, because you'd be here for years. And i'd feel a lot safer with an older Conklin than a younger Sabourin.

Anybody agree with me to a certain extent?

  1. Yeah we picked two goalies this year in the draft, but they will take a couple to a few years, if not longer, for them to make it in the NHL.  If anything, Conklin will leave Pittsburgh to go to another team as a backup, just like Thibault did after the '06-'07. But face it, if they can keep back-up Sabourin at a fairly cheaper price than Conklin, then the Pens will choose Sabourin over Conklin. It depends how much Conklin will want.  Buffalo was willing to give T-Bo more money than Pittsburgh and he knew he wouldn't be starting and would back up Ryan Miller.  I think the same could happen for Conklin.  And I love the pick of Alexander Pechurski. It will take a lil while for him to make it in the NHL, but he was pretty good in Russia.

  2. Well let's see we had the one in college, and then we draft two more. How many do we want/need? It's not even like we have a reason for so many. Come on I can see having one more who is young, but let's see that is like three PLUS Sabourin. I think we do need to keep Conklin. I'm not sure I'd totally give up on Sabourin, maybe he will develop, but why so many more if you aren't going to get rid of him?

  3. All NHL teams have at least two minor league teams. Each of those teams has two goalies. Therefore a team should have at least 6 goalies in the system.

Since it takes 4-6 years to develop and NHL goalie. It is wise to have more rather than less.

  4. Most people know what I want. I'm the BIGGEST Conklin HOMER I've ever seen.

Dany Sabourin sucks Pronger's balls. BOOM! He's trash.

I waaaaaaant Conklin to stay. I will praise the hockey lords and party if Shero signs Conklin. But I don't have a good feeling on it. =/

EDIT: You do know Conklin wants to stay here and be MAF's back up, right? I have a link but it won't let me post. I'll show you it some other time when it's letting me post. He likes MAF a lot. He knows he'll never be a started....he says he wants to stay. ALSO, LITY told me something a few days ago that Pittsburgh was going to talk to him after July 1st. If you see him, ask.

EDIT: Hey, about what LITY said the other day......go to my questions and look at the one that says 'How 'bout questions on this Monday evening?????' and look at LITY's answer to the one about TY.

EDIT: We DO need more D-men. The only defensive defenseman we have are GILL and ORPIK.

'Cos if you think about.....LETANG, GONCHAR, WHITNEY, GOLIGOSKI (Plays with WBS right now, but will probably be brought up for good next year)....they're all offensive.

  5. Ty Conklin is not old, he is only 32 years young.

Anyways I think that if Conklin leaves, we will have major goal tending issues,

I hate Sabu, Conklin saved us from failure. LOL

It's good though that they got a goalie, 2 though?

they should have got a defenseman instead.. but w/e.

These goalies are young, and who knows maybe they will turn out to be like Fleury, Price, etc.

Shero seems to know what he is doing, so I can't complain as of yet.

If I was Shero, Sabourin would have been gone already.

  6. Here's hoping Fleury doesn't get hit by a car. That's all I have to say! ; )

  7. It's always a smart choice to grab as many goaltenders as you can get because goaltenders are the hardest position to develop.

Pittsburgh has talked to Conklin's agent, but as with a lot of players, Conklin wants to wait until July 1st to see if bigger offers roll in.

Every goaltender thinks they are #1 material..........and in Pittsburgh Fleury is #1...........so a lot of goaltenders will wait until July 1st and see if they can get a deal from Washington, Los Angeles, or Ottawa where there is a possibility of being #1.  If Conklin doesn;t get an offer he likes from one of those teams, look for him to sign back in Pittsburgh (where he knows he has a chance to win).

I don't think Pittsburgh is actively seeking a back-up to Fleury at this point in time and I believe that they don't think that Conklin will generate enough interest from those teams and that they can get him for a decent price.

  8. With a little tenderness, maybe Shero can rub Hasek's feet and see if he'll sign w/Pitt for league min salary?
