Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby does not see League as willing to solve issues -NHL Lockout Update
After the long awaited meeting between the National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association came to a prompt end on Thursday, October 18, 2012, a screen of discontent and disappointment could be felt around the world of hockey.
It was looked to be one of the biggest moments in recent days as the league finally made a somewhat reasonable offer and all the Players’ Association had to do was tweak it a little and the 2012-2013 regular season would be back on, but it totally went right
into the opposite direction.
The meeting, which lasted a little over an hour, brought about disappointment to both sides and especially Pittsburgh Penguins captain and superstar, Sidney Crosby, who does not think that the league is willing enough to solve any issues without having what
they want done.
Crosby, via social media networking website Twitter, let the world know what he felt after the meeting came to an end and it certainly was not a boost for the fans that eagerly awaited to hear a positive outcome.
“When you make three proposals and get shut down in 10 minutes, it’s hard to think the other side really wants to negotiate.”
The labour union made three proposals in lieu of the NHL’s 50-50 offer and surprisingly, all three were shot down by the league in a matter of minutes, which for the players, goes to show that they are not willing to budge an inch on their stance of team
owners having majority of the share.
"It is still my hope that we can accomplish my goal, the League's goal of getting an 82-game season, but I am concerned based on the proposal that was made today that things are not progressing. To the contrary, I think the proposal that was made by the
Players' Association was in many ways a step backward," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said.
There is no telling where the talks will go from here as none of the sides have hinted at another meeting anytime soon or later on next week. Updates should be expected in the upcoming days on any potential news.
