Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby in confusion over Lockout -NHL Update
Every player and fan is eager to get back to playing and watching hockey, respectively, but there might not be anyone in such a mode of yearning as is Pittsburgh Penguins superstar captain Sidney Crosby.
The young hockey sensation is without a doubt, one of the best players to have ever graced the National Hockey League (NHL) and has gone through a lot since he was picked up by the club as the first overall draft pick back in 2005. A severe concussion was
a battle for him these past two seasons as it hindered not only his performance, but his appearances as well.
Just when Crosby was making it back into the spotlight with a lot of dedication and hard work, a lockout came about and has so far shattered his hopes and dreams of making it to the top of the NHL rankings once again.
"I think guys are all probably a bit surprised that [the lockout] has gone on this long, if anything," Crosby said, according to the Post-Gazette. "I don't think the belief or the unity has changed at all."
"It's funny how things work sometimes," Crosby added. "Everyone was pretty optimistic a week and a half ago, or whatever it was, and nothing really came from it.
"Maybe this time, it'll be a slow week, then, all of a sudden, we'll hear some news. Hopefully, that's the case."
He was confused over whether to go and play in Europe the day the lockout kicked off when the previous labour deal came to an end on September 15, 2012, but was one of the few to have stayed and decided to actively participate in negotiations. Teammate and
key Penguins forward, Evgeni Malkin was quick on making the move, but for Crosby, moving to Russia after having come out of a severe concussion is not as easy.
For one, the team who would sign him on for the season would have to set aside $400,000 just for his insurance coverage, which most clubs probably are not able to do no matter how much they want Crosby to come and play for them.
It will be interesting to see how the scenario turns out for one of hockey’s best players in the upcoming days.
