Pittsburgh Penguins’ Sidney Crosby sidelines from controversy over NBC analyst remarks-NHL News
Pittsburgh Penguins’ star centre, Sidney Crosby, has played down the chances of a controversy around the comments from NBC analyst, Mike Milbury, saying that he did not want to indulge into any longer debate with anyone.
Milbury, in his morning radio programme on Monday, April 02, 2012, criticised the atmosphere in which Penguins had played their last game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
He called Crosby’s play dishonest and presented a rather disputed view of overall environment in which the game was played.
However, he later apologised over his comments and said he had tried to reach out to the team’s officials and players to regret his comments with them.
He said:
"I reached out to (Pittsburgh president) David Morehouse and the Penguins about the comments I made yesterday on Philadelphia radio. In hindsight, I realize what I said was inappropriate and wrong, and I want to apologize to the Penguins organization and
their fans."
Crosby was asked about the remarks following his morning skate on Tuesday, April 03, 2012, but the player refrained from offering any specific remarks about the issue.
The player said:
"No, not really. I don't really have to get into that. I don't what he's looking for, if he's looking for attention or what it is. I don't have much to say there. I really don't know where that came from. He's pretty good at twisting stuff around, that's
for sure."
The analyst’s comments are the latest controversial development of the game played between the two teams last weekend.
The league office has already imposed fines on coaches from both teams and Flyers’ head coach, Peter Laviolette and assistant coach, Tony Granato, were fined $10,000 and $2,500, respectively.
A number of players from both sides, including Crosby, had also been subjected to rough plays and hits, leaving some of them injured.
It turned out to be rather tough game for Crosby who has already been battling with his concussion problem and has missed most of the current NHL season as a result of it.
More or less, the last two years turned out to be the period of an ordeal for him and he has again come on the verge of suffering another injury scare due to the rough conditions of the game.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers are neck and neck on the points table in the Eastern Conference. Both of them have already been confirmed their berths respectively in the playoffs but despite that have played rather competitive games in between,
lately.
Both teams have also been through their respective injury problems and are trying their best to maintain healthy and fit squads into the second round of the league.
The playoffs are only a couple of games away and all teams are aiming to be hundred per cent at all fronts to remain competitive in the round.
