Pittsburgh Penguins Tanner Glass signs with HC Banska Bystrica -NHL Update
For the Pittsburgh Penguins left winger, Tanner Glass, the lockout was not supposed to be lasting this long and the 29-year-old had thought that he would be just getting some extra time off to be spending with family and friends, but it has gone way overboard
and the need to play is growing with every passing day.
Glass is one of those players that maintain a low profile but make a major impact on whichever side they play for. He was picked up by the Pittsburgh Penguins as the 265th overall back in round-nine of the 2003 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry
Draft and has now become a part of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
According to latest reports, Glass signed on to a deal with Slovakia’s HC Banska Bystrica on Saturday in order to continue playing and stay sharp during the work stoppage as the two sides, the National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association continue
to negotiate on the key issues in order to bring the lockout to an end.
"I think it kind of came up at the end of last week, Thursday, Friday. A friend of mine (Canucks defenseman) Aaron Rome, we were going to go together but he kind of backed out of it last minute. He’s not going to go until after Christmas. The opportunity
came up for us to go. The GM over there sounded like he really wanted us. It’s a good opportunity go and play some games and to get the competitive spirit going again," Glass said talking to the Post-Gazette about his signing.
Glass has now played his fifth season in the North American major league, of which two were with the Florida Panthers, two with Vancouver Canucks and the recent most being with the NHL’s latest induction, the Winnipeg Jets.
In a total of 262 games played throughout his career, Glass has potted 39 points up until now, of which 13 are goals and 26 assists and 306 minutes of penalty time in the box.
It will definitely be interesting to see how Tanner Glass’ physicality helps him abroad and next season with the Penguins.
