Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain, Sidney Crosby, back after recovering from his injury: NHL Updates
Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain, Sidney Crosby, is reportedly back after spending a few days on vacation. There were various speculations regarding the future of the player after he sustained a concussion that kept him out of the entire regular season and the first round of the play-offs.
The player has expected to face a re-evaluation test in a week’s time to determine his future in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Crosby is not training with the team currently and from the looks of it, there still might be some time before he joins the team.
General Manager of Penguins, Ray Shero, expects Crosby to consult concussion specialist, Michael Crosby, before he starts training with the team and begins the off-season.
Crosby has been out of action since the 10th of January, 2010, during the regular season. Penguins has definitely missed him when it comes to goals and play-making.
His injury coupled with Evgeni Malkin’s put Penguins in a very weak position. He was determined to get back on ice and was declared fit to play when the regular season was on the verge of completion in April.
However, a few days later he was asked not to play as he continuously came across headaches. When he went out of the team there were many questions being raised regarding Penguins’ future in the 2010-11 season.
A lot was at stake at the time but the players replacing the two injured players were able to deal with the situation very well. They were able to finish in the top four.
In the play-offs, Pittsburgh was considered a weak side when it faced Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round.
The fact that it was able to come up with such a strong performance and establish a 3-1 lead silenced the critics. This didn’t help Penguins in the end as they didn’t possess the experience of Crosby who could carry the team right to the chequered flag.
In the end, Penguins lost the final three games of the series to be knocked out in the first round of the play-offs by Tampa Bay. Crosby was given time to recover and is expected to play in the off-season.
