Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby could be playing in Europe in case of lockout -NHL Update
While it might not be official at the moment, but sources at Post-Gazette.com are pointing out the very real possibility of Pittsburgh Penguins captain, Sidney Crosby, playing in Europe in case of a lockout, which at the moment cannot be ruled out at all.
What his agent, Pat Brisson, has termed the situation being is that his client is “feeling great” and wants to continue playing hockey whatever the situation may be. The September 15th deadline of the current collective bargaining agreement is
quick approaching and with both sides of the dealing having gone into a deadlock, fans just might have to follow Crosby overseas next year.
"If, at one point, there's a lockout and the lockout goes long ... Sidney wants to play hockey," Brisson said. "Of course, he would consider alternatives [to the NHL]."
Brisson went on to add that he had maintained contact with European leagues for a number of his clients, of which Sidney Crosby was specially pointed out to him as being one of the players mentioned in the talks. Any club on foreign territory would go all
out to get their hands on a player like Crosby, but none have been officially mentioned as of yet to be making offers.
Not only is Sidney Crosby planning on leaving the United States, but teammate and Pittsburgh Penguins leading forward, Evgeni Malkin, is also set to go out of the country if there is a need and being one step ahead, he mentioned earlier about already having
a deal in place.
At the moment, there has been no timeframe set for Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin but according to Brisson, he is prepared to play in the NHL in case of a deal being successfully implemented but is also ready to go out to continue playing if necessary.
What the biggest question on the mind of analysts will be is Crosby leaves the U.S. is whether or not he will be able to return if a deal comes into place later on in the year or will he have to miss it entirely due to contractual obligations.
