Pittsburgh Penguins’ centre Sidney Crosby could join Kontinental Hockey League to make it interesting
Sidney Crosby, a professional ice hockey player from Canada, who plays in the National Hockey League (NHL) for Pittsburgh Penguins, could be making a very interesting move by joining the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), the Russian league.
Crosby had not signed a contract with any other team outside North America because we wanted to wait and see if the lockout could end but now as things are not looking good and it appears if the whole season would be cancelled because of the lockout, he
may change his mind and would move to Europe.
The 25-year-old star centre has been getting some offers from Europe, particularly from Russia and according to him, they are attracting him now with time passing and prolonging the lockout.
Things would also get very interesting for the hockey fans in Russia and all over the world if the player joins KHL. He would definitely be looking for some destination where he can get competitive hockey as it was also mentioned in his latest statement.
Talking to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com, he clarified that like any other hockey player he is also looking to play some competitive game and for that he is looking for some place where he can get some competition. Crosby said,
"At the end of the day, I'm a hockey player and I love to play. If there's nothing really happening as far as getting a deal done, then it becomes much more important to play games and finding out where that makes sense."
Crosby’s agent Pat Brisson also talked to the ESPN later on Monday and revealed that his client has asked him to look for the options across the ocean. He told that his client wants to play hockey as he has been out of action for a while and has not been
played much of the hockey in last two seasons. Brisson would also be inquiring about the possible destinations of the player and would be finalising the deal very soon, as he said,
“Sidney is seriously looking at his options in Europe. He needs and wants to play hockey. It will be difficult to go all year without playing after what he's gone through the last two years. Over the next few days I'm going to make more calls and continue
to explore Sidney's options."
Another interesting aspect in Crosby’s move to NHL would be his re-union with few of his team mates and his rival that everybody would be looking forward to very keenly. He could team up with his Penguins’ team mate Evgeny Malkin and may face his rival Alex
Ovechkin if he comes to KHL.
