Pittsburgh Penguins continue rolling with 11th straight past New Jersey Devils 5-2 -NHL Update
There is definitely no telling where the Pittsburgh Penguins are heading now as they grabbed a 11th straight victory past New Jersey Devils easily, 5-2, at the sold-out Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
It was easy to see the intimidation on the face of the New Jersey players going up against an extremely supercharged Pittsburgh Penguins team, which are at their peak at the most perfect of times in a regular season with the playoff right around the corner.
"One of our goals is winning the division, and as we keep winning here it's a possibility. We want to keep focusing on that," Penguins coach, Dan Bylsma, said. "It's great to win 11 in a row, but now we're going into Philly and Philly is right on our heels
as well. They're playing great hockey and it's a big rivalry. We have to put 11 behind us and look right ahead to Philly."
Sidney Crosby was the start of the night as he picked up three points (all assists), his first triple point game playing his second ever since going out on December 5th.
"If you come into a situation where everyone is playing well and you just have to fill your role, do your job, it's always more comfortable," Crosby said.
Evgeni Malkin setup James Neal for the first of the night and his 32nd of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season followed by Andy Greene, getting his inaugural goal of the year.
Penguins cut loose in the second round as Pascal Dupuis, Matt Cooke and Malkin fired off three straight for the visiting team, taking a huge 4-1 lead entering the final period of regulation.
Petr Sykora gave New Jersey their second and last of the night while Matt Cooke capped the contest off with his second in regulation at 5:56 of the third.
Penguins are expected to only get hotter as they have their last on the road before returning home against Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday.
The situation will continue to be tough for New Jersey Devils as they have the next against top Eastern Conference team, New York Rangers, on Monday.
