Pittsburgh Penguins defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in shoot-out – NHL Recap
The Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in a shoot-out at the Wells Fargo Arena on Thursday. The Flyers needed to win if they wanted to cement their position at the top of the National Hockey League Eastern Conference, while the Penguins
are looking to move up position in the standings.
The game started off with the Penguins making a strong start, but it was Flyers who scored the lone goal of the period to get into the lead. The second period saw both teams making a decent start, as the Penguins scored to level the game. The period saw
both teams making more shots, but no further goals were scored. The period ended with the score level on 1-1.
Both teams made a few shots during the final period, but no goals were scored. The game went into over-time, but it was the Penguins who won the game 2-1 after the shoot-out. Sergei Bobrovsky, goalie of the Flyers, was the Star of the Game, as he made 30
saves during the course of the game.
The Penguins made a decent start to the game which saw them creating chances for themselves from the beginning. However, they failed to find the back of the net early on. With the passage time the Flyers also joined the party and made a few shots on goal.
The first goal was scored in the 16th minute in favour of the Flyers. The goal was scored by Mike Richards from a well placed flick-shot, as the period saw a few more shots on goal by both the teams, but no further goals were scored.
The period ended with the Flyers leading 1-0. During the course of the period, the Flyers made 7 shots on goal, as the Penguins managed 11 attempts.
The second period saw the both teams continuing on the same road, but it was the Penguins who scored in the second minute through Tyler Kennedy from a well placed flick-shot to level the scores.
There were a couple of more shots on goal by both teams, but they were unable to find the back of the net. The period ended with the score level on 1-1. During the course of the period, the Penguins made nine shots on goal while the Flyers attempted 8.
The final 20 minutes of play saw the both teams a little reluctant to go on the attacks. Though there were several chances for both teams to score, but they failed to score, as the period ended with the score level on 1-1.
The game went into over-time, but no goals were scored in the five minutes. The Penguins managed to win the game after the shoot-out 2-1.
