Pittsburgh Penguins forward Craig Adams expected to return for training camp –NHL offseason Update
Pittsburgh Penguins left winger, Craig Adams, who underwent laparoscopic appendectomy surgery this past week, is expected to return to the line-up for the teams’ training camp session in September, a month before the new 2011-2012 National Hockey League
(NHL) regular season begins.
The announcement was made by Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday, August 22, through a press release.
Adams, a former 223rd overall pick during round-nine of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft by the then, Hartford Whalers, never played with his original draft team, but was sent to Carolina Hurricanes, who signed him on after four years, during the 2000-2001
season.
After his selection, Adams continued to play with Harvard Crimson, a team in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), prior to be signed on by Carolina Hurricanes. In his first major league season, the 34-year-old participated in 44 matchups and managed
to score one goal while finishing with a plus-minus rating of -7.
The following season, he played in 22 games with Lowell Lock Monsters in the American Hockey League (NHL) in order to improve his game, which worked as he scored 18 points (6 goals, 12 assists) the next season and played a near complete, 81-game season.
Adams left during the 2004-2005 lockout and played with HC Milano in Italy, where he shone brightly by capturing 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists) in 30 games.
The Seria, Brunei Darussalam native, continued his game-play with Hurricanes up until the 2007-2008 season, during which he was traded to Chicago Blackhawks and performed for the remaining two. During the 2008-2009 season, he was again traded, this time
from Chicago Blackhawks to Pittsburgh Penguins, where the veteran forward has seen a gradual improvement in his performance.
Last season, Adams managed to scored 15 points (4 goals, 11 assists) in 80 games played, along with a plus-minus rating of -5 and 76 penalty minutes.
According to Adams, he hopes that the next season will allow him to make a comeback to his previous game position and establish his name in the league as one of the top forwards and with Pittsburgh, he certainly does have the opportunity.
