Pittsburgh Penguins hope to settle the score as Philadelphia Flyers visit – NHL Playoff Preview
The Pittsburgh Penguins are still in awe over the result of their first playoff game, which they loss against the Philadelphia Flyers after giving away a three-goal lead.
To ensure they do not face the same humiliation again, Penguins just have to do one thing – defend well.
The same tip should be utilised by the Flyers as they came back spectacularly well, but why give away too many goals in the first place?
Flyers and Penguins are going to play second game of their playoff series on Friday, April 13, 2012, at CONSOL Energy Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Last meeting
Penguins started the proceedings well as they scored three goals in the first period to get a dominant edge over the Flyers who were unable to register even a single scoring move in the first period.
Sidney Crosby, Tyler Kennedy and Pascal Dupuis scored apiece to stun the Flyers.
However, things started to move in completely other direction for Penguins after the successful first period.
Danny Briere scored the only goal of the second period to reduce the deficit to two goals. He scored another goal in the third period to take Flyers’ score to two goals.
Brayden Schenn scored a power-play goal in the same period to level the score and force the game to overtime in which Jakub Voracek scored for Flyers and startled the Penguins.
What are they thinking?
Penguins were certainly looking as winners after that first period of the game, but the result apparently shocked both the teams.
Flyers’ defenseman, Kimmo Timonen, commented on the game:
"To be honest, I think we got lucky. Obviously we didn't start the way we wanted to start. It's not an easy building to play in against the top team in the League. That's why I say we got lucky. We have to be a totally different team from the first period
on."
Had Penguins killed the penalty in the final period, they would have won the game and defenseman, Kris Letang, is remorseful about it. He said:
"Obviously, the power play needs to do a better job. That's the reason we practiced it this morning. We could have put the game away with a power-play goal. We have to work on it and learn from it and make sure we do the right things.”
Predictions
Keeping in mind the performance of both teams in the last game and the fact that the second game will be played on Penguins’ home ice, the home team can be favoured.
