Pittsburgh Penguins manage away win against Tampa Bay Lightning, game 4 – NHL playoffs
Pittsburgh Penguins beat Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 in their own backyard at the St. Pete Times Forum on Wednesday.
With the win, the Penguins have taken a comfortable 3-1 lead in the series. The Penguins lost the second game of the series on home ice but since then they have been brilliant and won both away games. This puts the Penguins in a very good position as their
next game is on home ice and they need just one win to make their way into the semi-finals.
The Lightning made a few shots on goal every now and then but it was the Penguins who enjoyed much of the possession. They scored the lone goal of the period to lead 1-0 as the teams went into the break. The Penguins dominated the second period and scored
early on to double the lead. The Lightning came up with a few shots on goal at the end of the period and scored a goal to open their account. The final period witnessed the Lightning scoring the lone goal of the period and levelling the scores. The game went
into the second overtime from where the Penguins emerged as 3-2 winners of the game. James Neal was named the star of the game for his winning goal.
The home team, backed by the crowd was the first one to pile up shots on goal. However, they gave away an early power-play to the Penguins that resulted in them scoring and getting into the lead. The goal was scored by Tyler Kennedy from a well-placed flick
shot.
The Penguins made a few more shots on goal but they were unable to score and the period ended with the Penguins leading 1-0 as they made 12 shots on goal while the Lightning made 6.
The Penguins were on fire right from the start of the second period and scored through Arron Asham from a superb flick shot to double their advantage. They kept on attacking until the time when the Lightning finally managed to come up with a few shots of
their own.
The Lightning were successful in scoring in the 18th minute through Martin St. Louis from a decent flick shot to cut the lead to a single goal.
The final period was pretty even with the Lightning making 8 shots on goal while the Penguins made 10 of those. However, the Lightning scored the all-important equaliser in the 17th minute through Sean Bergenheim.
The regulation time ended with the scores level on 2-2. This meant that the game had to be decided in overtime. There were no goals in the first overtime but the Penguins scored through James Neal in the fourth minute during the second overtime to win 3-2
in the end.
