Pittsburgh Penguins manage to win 2-1 against the Los Angeles Kings in overtime
Another one of the games of Thursday which was decided in overtime was the Pittsburgh Penguins playing host to the Los Angeles Kings. The game was anticipated to be very tough and this was certainly how it turned it. There was a huge crowd present to witness
the game at the Consol Energy Centre which was the 818th game of the season.
Both teams scored a goal each in the first period after which no goals were scored in the remaining two periods and the scores were level on 1-1. However, Penguins successfully scored in overtime to win the game 2-1. Jordan Staal, centre of the Pittsburgh
Penguins was the named the player of game for his overtime winning goal.
Pittsburgh Penguins were strong early on and with the passing and shooting they came close to scoring. However, it didn’t take long for them to capitalize from the start they made as they successfully scored through Brett Sterling in 7th minute
to get into the lead. The goal was scored as a result of a brilliant quick fired shot that caught the goal keeper by surprise.
Los Angeles Kings managed to settle in the game after which they totally dominated the proceedings from the start till the end. They came up some excellent passing and shooting which resulted in them coming across several goal scoring opportunities. Though
it took some time but the Los Angeles Kings successfully scored in the 18th minute to level the scores.
The goal was scored by Jarret Stoll through a brilliant flick shot that was placed very well. Los Angeles Kings continued to dominate the game and there were several occasions where they came close to scoring but this didn’t happen. The scores at the end
of the period were level on 1-1. During the period Kings made 13 goal attempts while Penguins made 5 goal attempts.
The second period saw the winds change directions as with some strong offensive play the Pittsburgh Penguins dominated the game. Not only was the offence superb, but the defence was also on top. There were several occasions where the Penguins cut down any
dangerous plays.
The Kings were restricted to their half for most of the period. Though they too came up with some goal attempts but failed to convert the few chances they got into goals. The Penguins too couldn’t score as the period ended with the scores level on 1-1. Penguins
made 11 goal attempts in the period while Kings made 2 goal attempts.
The final period saw both teams coming up goal attempts on regular basis. Though Penguins were the better starters of the game but Kings got stronger and stronger with the passage of time. They came close to scoring but the goal keepers of both teams came
up with brilliant saves.
The period ended with Los Angeles Kings making 14 goal attempts while the Pittsburgh Penguins made 8 goal attempts. The scores were level on 1-1 with no goals scored in the final period as well. The game went into overtime where Pittsburgh Penguins scored
through Jordan Staal from a flick shot in the 5th minute to win 2-1 in the end.
