Pittsburgh Penguins rebound against Winnipeg Jets 8-4 -NHL Update
It seemed as if the Pittsburgh run was all over after a 3-2 overtime loss to Philadelphia Flyers in their previous matchup but Penguins shocked and amazed as they rebounded with a huge 8-4 victory over Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night, March 20, 2012, at the
sold-out CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and James Neal were the unstoppable trio of the night as the three players contributed for a total of 13 points altogether. Crosby was the leading man with four assists while Malkin picked up five with two goals and three assist
and Neal contributed with three goals and an assist.
Amazingly, Malkin is still leading the entire National Hockey League (NHL) as he entered the 90 plus point mark with a total of 93 (43 goals, 50 assists). The whole Penguins team is extremely charged up and seeing them make for the run would definitely not
be surprising.
"It's much easier (to return) when the team is playing as well as we are. You always work hard and prepare to come back, but coming in with everyone playing so well … it makes that transition a lot easier," Crosby said.
Tyler Kennedy kicked off the scoring at 2:04 in the opener with his seventh of the 2011-2012 NHL regular season followed by two straight from Jim Slater and Bryan Little. Neal capped the period off and levelled the contest at 2-2 with less than four minutes
remaining on the power play.
Neal inaugurated round-two with another from Bryan Little and Tyler Kennedy. Malkin widened the gap while Tim Stapleton of Winnipeg made it a one point game at 14:39 in the second. James Neal ended the period once again, this time extending the Pittsburgh
lead to 6-4 entering the final 20 minutes.
Evgeni Malkin and Pascal Dupuis added the last two of the night to secure the match 8-4 with less than seven minutes remaining in the last.
Penguins are on a roll and will definitely dominate Nashville Predators at home on Thursday while Winnipeg Jets, still determined to make a run for the playoffs, have the next against Washington Capitals on Friday.
