Pittsburgh Penguins seal emphatic 6-3 win against the Atlanta Thrashers
Pittsburgh Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby scored two goals to increase his scoring streak to 25 games, as the Penguins hammered the Atlanta Thrashers 6-3 on Tuesday.
The Atlanta Thrashers came out in attacking fashion from the start of the match, and scored after just 47 seconds through a brilliant flick shot from Evander Kane. The Penguins took a while to settle into the game after going behind so early, and began putting
together some brilliant moves once they found their rhythm. The Penguins created a number of chances and eventually leveled the scores in the 11th minute through Captain Sidney Crosby.
The momentum continued to shift from one side to the other, before the away side took the lead once again. Dustin Byfuglien’s powerful strike in the 16th minute put the Atlanta Thrashers in the lead. However, the home team was determined to score before
the period ended. Their confidence and hard work paid off, as they scored in the 19th minute to level the scores with Sidney Crosby leading by example to score his second goal of the night. The period ended with the scores level at 2-2 with the Atlanta Thrashers
making 15 goal attempts, while the Pittsburgh Penguins made 11 goal attempts.
Apart from a few early shots on goal in the second period, the Atlanta Thrashers didn’t have much to talk about. They could only manage to come up with five goal attempts during the course of the period, which was disappointing. Meanwhile the Penguins dominated
the Thrashers throughout the remainder of the period. The home team scored in the 12th minute through a brilliant shot from Craig Adams to take the lead.
Though the Pittsburgh Penguins got numerous scoring opportunities during the last eight minutes, they were unable to score and the period ended with the Pittsburgh Penguins leading 3-2. During the course of the period the Penguins made 16 goal attempts,
while their defence managed to restrict the Thrashers to only five.
Pittsburgh made a brilliant start to the final period. The home team started in full attacking mode, which saw them score in the first minute to take the score to 4-2. The goal was scored by Chris Kunitz. The Penguins kept on piling the pressure and scored
once again in the 13th minute through Mark Letestu. Mark Cooke sealed the win for the home side when he scored in the 17th minute through a simple tip in shot.
Even though the Atlanta Thrashers scored their third goal in the 17th minute through Eric Boulton, it was a little too late for to stage a comeback. The period and the match ended with the Pittsburgh Penguins winning the match 6-3. During the course of the
match Atlanta made 34 goal attempts, while the Penguins made 36 goal attempts. Sidney Crosby was named the star selection of the match with two goals and two assists.
