Pittsburgh Penguins set to make changes following disappointing Playoff Series -NHL Update
It was one of the most disappointing moments in the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs when Pittsburgh Penguins, one of the favourite teams headed into the postseason, were eliminated so easily by Philadelphia Flyers in the opening round,
4-2, in Game 6.
Having all their key players, like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal, healthy and ready-to-go on the line-up and still being ousted like a minor league team, Pittsburgh Penguins’ management realises that changes are needed.
According to Pittsburgh general manager, Ray Shero, the Penguins will be having a busy summer and offseason to rethink what went wrong in the playoffs following a great regular season.
"We have a lot of things moving forward that we have to work on -- decisions we have to make. We're going to take the next two months probably to sort through this," Shero said.
After being dominated by Philadelphia Flyers, head coach of the Penguins, Dan Bylsma, announced to stick with his core set of players which include Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal, but the remaining aspects are still to be decided.
One of the things that Pittsburgh will also be focusing on is the contract extensions of Sidney Crosby and Jordan Staal. Both players have expressed their desires to continue playing with the Penguins but their contracts will be tough on the negotiation
process.
“It’s going to be something that the team and I will both wait to see what makes sense,” Crosby said. “It’s hard being in the situation that it is with the CBA. Typically you’d start talking soon. It might be a matter of waiting to see how it plays out and
what makes sense for both sides.”
It will definitely be exciting to see what changes could be made by the Penguins this offseason as they have more than enough time to plan out how to reorganise and become a Stanley Cup winning team again.
Seeing how Pittsburgh will make neccessary changes to the line-up will be a must watch as they hold one of the best group of players and despite that, not being able to penetrate the postseason has been an awful disappointment for them.
