Pittsburgh Penguins sign forward Richard Park to one-year, two-way deal -NHL offseason Update
Pittsburgh Penguins added unrestricted free agent of New York Islanders, veteran forward Richard Park, to a one-year, two-way contract, worth an estimated $550,000 if he is to play in the National Hockey League (NHL) next season and an undisclosed amount
if his services are required in the minor leagues.
Being one of the few players from the Asian region of the world, Park has established himself as a go-to player in tense situations and can score points during regular season and playoff matchups.
The 35-year-old is certainly not new when it comes to playing with the Penguins franchise as it was the team which he entered the major league through. Pittsburgh picked Park as their 50th overall pick during round-two of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
It was along the 1994-1995 season in which he played only one game and potted a single assist. Prior to his first NHL matchup, Park was a high scoring performer in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for two seasons and also participated in the World Junior Championships
with team USA by recording five points (3 goals, 2 assists) in seven contests.
Parks appeared in three seasons with Penguins along with their OHL affiliate, Belleville Bulls following a transition to Anaheim Ducks during the 1996-1997 season in which he was traded. Two seasons later, Parks found himself playing for Philadelphia Flyers
for a single season and then Minnesota Wild for another two.
It was with the turn of the century that Parks genuinely found his game and began scoring above 20 points for three continuous seasons. He faced a break in his performance with Vancouver Canucks in 2005-2006 but reached new heights after joining New York
Islanders in 2006.
For the last three regulation seasons, the Seoul, South Korea native has been recording 30 plus points each season and has remained consistent in his appearances with the New York team.
Park’s vast regular season experience can certainly provide Pittsburgh Penguins with an added offensive advantage, which in this side of the league, is always a good thing to have sidelined for when leading players get injured.
