Pittsburgh Penguins signs right wing Craig Adams to a $1.35 Million 2-year deal –NHL Offseason Update
Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed its right wing player, Craig Adams, also known as the penalty killer to a two-year $1.35 million contract on Thursday, June 9th, to retain him before he became an unrestricted free agent on the first of July as the
free agency begins.
Adams remained the top penalty-killing player for Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2010-2011 season, which they finished as the fourth placed team in the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Eastern Conference and entered the playoffs.
"I obviously wanted to be there in Pittsburgh", Adams said. "I'm comfortable with the organization and the city. I'm happy about this".
However, Penguins was knocked out of the playoffs in the first round against Tampa Bay Lightning.
Even though the series remained in Pittsburgh’s favour after four games in which they led 3-1 and had Lightning on the brink of elimination, the fifth placed Tampa Bay countered back and won three straight games to advance into the next round.
The 34-year-old from Seria, Brunei Darussalam, registered 15 points, including 11 assists and four points during the previous regular season in 80 games played.
Adams played all seven games during the postseason and had one goal throughout the Eastern Conference quarterfinals’ series.
According to sources and confirmed by the team management, Adam will continue in the same position as a left wing attacker even though he plays the defensive position very well and led Pittsburgh to being the top penalty killing team in the NHL last season.
"Unless the staff wants to put me on the power play", Adams answered when asked that if he would be changing positions. "My role will be the same. I'll play right wing, center, left wing. I'll play wherever they want me to play".
Max Talbot, Pascal Dupuis, Mike Rupp, and Arron Asham are all to become free agents as soon as the month ends and pulling back Adams in time, leaves Pittsburgh Penguins with just a few more to negotiate with.
Pittsburgh has high hopes for the upcoming season and having these players in the line-up is the only possible way of making it a reality.
