Pittsburgh Penguins starting to be a surprise in Game 3 against Boston Bruins – NHL news
Throughout the 2013 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs, goaltending was something that the Pittsburgh Penguins may not have taken so seriously, but ever since they had to go up against the Boston Bruins, their net minder holds a very special
place.
Having lost both games at home against Boston during the Eastern Conference Finals, Pittsburgh fans everywhere were shocked and are now prepared to see the Pittsburgh superstar team be put on the verge of elimination as the series returns to the Bruins TD
Garden.
For now, head Pittsburgh Penguins coach, Dan Bylsma, might have decided on who he is going to play in net, but is not ready to reveal that name just right now. Out of Marc-Andre Fleury and Tomas Vokoun, one will be starting the match for the Penguins but
that will remain to be a surprise.
“We look at his entire body of work -- not one instance or one shot [in Game 2] that would sway what goes into how he performed or how he's going to perform in his next game,” Bylsma said. “He's certainly won a lot of hockey games, had a lot of success in
that net for us. He didn't have that [Monday], but that's not going to play into the decision.”
In the previous two matchups, which the Penguins miserably lost to Boston, Fleury was their starting man. But now as the situation has dynamically changed, experts are believing that Vokoun may just be given the chance to shine and prove his worth for the
Penguins.
Vokoun has not been as good as well as he allowed six goals in 77 minutes against the Bruins thus far. But looking at his previous record of winning his first seven starts, the Penguins may just want to change around the karma.
“As a goalie, you're there to make a difference,” Vokoun said. “I wouldn't say they were bad goals, but I didn't make the stop and didn't make the difference.”
Game 3 between Pittsburgh Penguins and Bruins is scheduled for Wednesday at 8 PM ET at the TD Garden in Boston.
