Pittsburgh Penguins wins 3-1 against the Buffalo Sabres bagging a crucial win in their race for the playoffs
Another one of the important games of Tuesday was Pittsburgh Penguins playing host to Buffalo Sabres at the Consol Energy Center.
A win was crucial for both teams with Penguins chasing the top teams in the Eastern Conference while Sabres were looking to cement a hold on the final play-off position.
Sabres made a decent start to the game which saw them leading by a goal at the end of the first period.
However, Penguins managed to come up with some decent pieces of play and scored twice in the second period to go ahead 2-1.
Penguins scored once again in the final period to win the game by 3-1 in the end.
Zbynek Michalek of Penguins was named the star of the game for scoring a goal and an assist.
Both teams made a great start to the game which saw them coming up with attacks and strong pieces of play every now and then.
There were several chances for Sabres to get into early and they did just that with a goal in the third minute with the goal scored by Rob Niedermayer from a brilliant flick shot.
Both teams continued to pile pressure on the defence and displayed some excellent ice hockey but they were unable to find the back of the end.
The period saw Penguins ending the period on a high but no goals were scored as the period ended with Sabres leading 1-0. During the period, Sabres made 15 shots on goal while Penguins made 12 goal attempts.
The second period started off with Penguins dominating possession and coming up with shots on goal. They successfully scored in the second minute through James Neal from a brilliant flick shot to level the scores.
Though Sabres were able to come up with a few shots, it was Penguins who scored once again in the fifth minute to get into the lead.
The goal was scored by Zbynek Michalek from a powerful strike.
The period saw Penguins top as they made 8 shots on goal while Sabres made 7 shots on goal. The period ended with Penguins leading 2-1.
The final 20 minutes were almost a reflection of the second period but Penguins were better on the offence this time out. Though they didn’t manage to come up with as many goals this time but they flow in their game helped them to understand each other better
which would help in the upcoming games.
The lone goal of the period was scored by Mark Letestu from a tip in shot in the 14th minute. The period and the game ended with Penguins winning 3-1 in the end.
During the course of the period, Penguins made 11 shots on goal while Sabres made 8 goal attempts.
