Pittsburgh Penguins wins 5-1 against Edmonton Oilers as it closes the gap on the Eastern Conference leaders
Pittsburgh Penguins played host to Edmonton Oilers at the Consol Energy Center. The game was important with Penguins looking to win the game and close the gap on the Eastern Conference leaders.
On the other hand, Oilers were looking to come up with the important win so that they would come across some success in a disappointing season so far.
The game started off with Penguins scoring the only goal in the first period.
The second period saw Penguins continuing their attacking mentality which resulted in them scoring twice.
The final period of the game saw both teams scoring goals but in the end it was Penguins who won the game by 5-1.
Chris Kunitz of Penguins was named the star of the game as he scored two goals during the game.
Penguins came up with a splendid performance at the start of the game which saw them coming up with shots on goal every now and then. Their passing and shooting were decent at the start of the period and they managed to carry the momentum throughout the
period.
Their defence was also superb during the 20 minutes of play which restricted the opposing team to their half during the course of the period.
Oilers managed to come up with one or two shots on goal that could have found the back of the net but they weren’t able to score.
Penguins were without any doubt the dominating force in the period which resulted in them intensifying their attacks with the passage of time. It looked as if the period would end without any goals.
However, Penguins managed to score right at the death in the final minute through Chris Kunitz to get into the lead.
The period ended with Penguins leading 1-0. During the period, Penguins made 13 shots on goal while Oilers made just two shots on goal.
The second period started off with Penguins making a decent start which resulted in them scoring in the seventh minute to double their lead.
The goal was scored by Maxime Talbot from a flick shot. Both teams came up with a strong offensive show which saw them making shots every now and then.
Penguins managed to score once again in the 19th minute through Jordan Staal through a simple tip-in shot to extend their lead further. The period ended with Penguins leading 3-0. During the course of the period, Oilers made 11 while Penguins
made 10 goal attempts.
Oilers managed to score the first goal in the final period in the second minute through Ryan Jones to trail by two goals.
However, Penguins scored twice, in the eighth and 17th minute, to seal the game. The goals were scored by Zbynek Michalek and Chris Kunitz, respectively.
In the end, it was Penguins who won the game by 5-1. The final period saw Oilers making 16 shots on goal while Penguins made 10 goal attempts.
