Pittsburgh Pirates Neil Walker looks forward to three-game series against Cincinnati Reds – MLB News
The Pittsburgh Pirates' second and third baseman Neil Walker said on Thursday, August 2, that the series against the Cincinnati Reds will be an important one and the team will keep playing good baseball.
The three-game series which is to kick off from Friday is being eagerly awaited as both the teams are competing fiercely for the top slot in the National League Central. While the Reds occupy the first position, the Pirates are a potential contender to dislodge the Reds.
But the difference of three and a half games is certainly not a minor one. The Pirates are to put a big effort to achieve the desired result. Walker is all optimistic about the result given the performance of the team this season.
"Oh man," Walker said, "there is so much baseball left. We're playing good baseball right now. No matter what happens this weekend, we know who we are and that we got a lot of home games left. Yeah, this is a very important series. But in the big picture, it's just another series.”
Walker also seems tremendously excited for the series. There is no denying that the two teams will do everything possible to dominate. The Pirates, on their part, want to live up to the fans’ expectations.
"I can totally see where [fans' high anticipation] is coming from. But this isn't football season," he said. "Where every game is crucial. So absolutely I can see where people would be tremendously excited for this weekend, and we are, too -- rightfully so.”
But the Reds are currently in an awesome form, outshining the rivals in the Division with incredible force. That is what the Pittsburgh Pirates are well aware of and will try to effectively deal with once the series starts.
When the two teams had at last competed, which was a three-game series from June 5 to 7, the Pirates had won it after a tough fight. Thus, with bated breath, the fans of both the teams will watch the three-game series, wherein the winner will determine the course of this season’s future as to who will make it to the playoffs.
