Pittsburgh Pirates complete trade with Boston Red Sox – MLB Update
The Pittsburgh Pirates and Boston Red Sox have completed six-player deal. The deal involved two main players from each side along with several others as well.
Relief pitcher Joel Hanrahan was acquired by the Boston Red Sox along with infielder Brock Holt while Pirates received Mark Melancon, Stolmy Pimentel, infielder Ivan De Jesus and first baseman Jerry Sands.
All these Major League players are highly talented individuals and possess good Major League experience. Experts say that this trade will help both franchises to grow further in the league.
Hanrahan is a big catch for the Boston Red Sox as he played tremendously in the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is five-year Major League veteran and knows his game well. He pitched nicely in the previous season and achieved consistent numbers. He went pitching at
2.72 ERA along with 36 saves, 67 strikeouts and 1.27 WHIP.
His career pitching stats are also consistent at 3.74 ERA along with 96 saves, 436 strikeouts and 1.39 WHIP.
“When people look back on me as a Pirate, that’s the one that stands out the most to them,” Hanrahan said Wednesday after being obtained in a six-player trade and explained in the media with detail.     
“It definitely made an impression on me,” he said with more confidence. “It was not fun to be in the batter’s box against Joel Hanrahan.”
Brock Holt also is good player and will play an active role for the Boston Red Sox. He currently holds a good hitting average of .292 along three RBIs and .329 OBP.
Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ received relief pitcher Mark Melancon who possesses good track record. Last season, playing with the Boston Red Sox, he pitched with 6.20 ERA along with one save, 41 strikeouts and 1.27 WHIP. He has also good career record
of 4.07 ERA along with 21 saves, 139 strikeouts and 1.26 WHIP.
Pirates also received Ivan De Jesus, who is considered a good shortstop in the entire league. He played tremendously in the last season and achieved consistent numbers. He did well with .220 hitting average along with four RBIs and .267 OBP.
