Pittsburgh Pirates crush Cincinnati Reds 8-4 – MLB Recap
The Pittsburgh Pirates crushed the Cincinnati Reds 8-4 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, June 5 at Great American Ball Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Pirates were coming into this series with huge optimism as they beaten the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 in their recent three-game clash.
While as soon as they approached Great American Ball Park, they started off well and maintained their offensive-run until winning the game with great result.
Pirates were able to hit three homers in total nine innings’ span which were the main winning factor of their win. Neil Walker, Casey McGehee and Alex Presley hit each homer in the Pirates’ win.
"It just shows what we're capable of on offense, Up and down the lineup, we've been able to relax a little more and go out and compete." Walker said with confidence as his homer proved decisive for his team.
On the other hand, the Pirates starter A.J. Burnett also gave a helping hand to his team with his extraordinary pitching in which he gave only three runs out of five hits. He also struck-out eight Reds batters and kept his 3.76 ERA under control.
"You want to go deeper into the game, especially when they get that kind of lead for you early, It's a good sign for our offense today." Burnett said on his balanced pitching.
Later the Pirates manager Clint Hurdle also commented in the media about his team’s great win. He said with detail, "It's good to score early, It's hard to take that team out of the game in this ballpark because they have confidence late."
In the meanwhile, this recent particular game gave the Pirates a decent advantage over the last year’s World Series Champions St. Louis Cardinals who are one place behind from Pittsburgh.
Pirates however, staying focus on second position in the National League Central Division with 28-26 win loss record along with .529 winning percentage.
The Reds, despite this defeat, are still at top in the National League Central with 30-24 win loss along with .556 winning percentage.
